hi all,i am looking at getting a new grafics card,at the mo i have a ati 9800 pro ,128mb,what wold you advise on getiing ati 1800 or nvidia 7800.All in all i really should get a new comp as at the moment i have a amd2800,2gig ramand the 9800,i do not want to really break the bank in one go as the wife would go apeshit.
    thanks in advance for your thoughts.

    p.s.I only have dsl light,running at max 384bit/s download,would i see any difference with new components,if not then i doubt wether i will make a purchase.....ta
If you can afford it, nVidia 7800. I was an ATI fan but once I switched to a 7600GT, I can play without choppy frames, and everything set to highest with 4x AA.

Definitely the nVidia, or if you want to save a little, the 7600GT.

EDIT:

Hardware does not affect internet speed in video games.

Actually If you have over 5mbps and a router, that's not true. Most cheap routers dont have a high enough throughput to fully utilize that good a conection.

thanks,ref the internet speed,what i was wanting to know is would i see an improvment at my end.

you won't see a difference in internet speed, but that's not to say that your problems with speed aren't hardware related.  If your hardware can't process the graphics data, you will lag.  I run the 7800GT maxed out with no issues and love it.
