Rank up, As soon as you get to Lance Copral you can get a gun unlock .http://ubar.bf2s.com/ranks.php
Then from gunnery sargent you get 2 unlocks per rank
Hence, the bottom row of guns, e.g SCAR-l, MP7 are only avaliable if you have or have been on SF. You need to have played one round for it to register.~

Anyways, When you rank up, the first unlock rank being lance corporal, there will be something that will pop up the next time when you log in and you can choose it. I hope that that answers your question.

if you get 2 unlocks when you turn gunnery sgt, i should have all my guns unlocked by now. (need 2 more) never got an unlock for the last 2 ranks either!

If you have played (a ranked game) on Special Forces with your account, you will get your 2 unlocks per rank increase.
If you have NEVER played the Special Forces expansion with your account then you will only recieve ONE unlock per rank.

Well, as people here have said, you need to rank up to earn unlocks, which you can then use to unlock weapons for each kit ( one per unlock ). If you have SF, you will get additional unlocks ( kind of a reward from EA for buying extra stuff, if you will ). You can find a list of all ranks and unlock information in UBaR ( see upper hand navigation ).
and please,use the search next time, as 99% of all problems and questions around this game have already been discussed here at least once...

PS: once you get your first unlock, chose wisely. Once it is selected, you can't take it back.
You might want to use the search to browse through the chatter section, there are lots of threads with comments about the different weapons and which to chose for what reasons. There is also some information about the additional unlockable weapons in the Wiki ( again, see top hand navigation ).
