I would like to use VOIP with BF2 but I don't want to use a gaming headset. I have great speakers and want to hear the game in all it brilliance. Does anyone just place a computer mic on their lapel and do VOIP that way? Im not sure if those desk mounted mic's would work well because of all the noise comming from the game. Thanks in advance for any advice!

I have a standalone mic. The quality is perfect. It does not pick up much ambient sound (unless i turn the speakers up v loud).

I have used a headset but i prefer using a standalone mic as i am then not restricted by the wires on the headset, (say, if i want to get up and walk away in a hurry)

Occasionaly people get an echo of themselves being transmitted down my mic, but it's not the end of the world.

Personally, if you want to get a new mic, go for a desk one, rather than a head set.

well, i dont know if this helps but for programs like TS and Vent i have a headset with the earpiece on one ear (if you really want to know its the xbox 360 headset) and i have the regualr sound come out of my speakers and TS and Vent come out of the headset.

if you want to know if it is possible to have VOIP and the game coming out of your speakers, then yes it works fine and that is how i have it.

I actually have two sets of headphones hooked up to my computer. One is my gaming headset with the microphone and it has two seperate jacks: one for microphone out and the other for headphone audio in. I just don't plug in the headphone jack because my other, regular headphones have much better audio and they're more comfortable to wear.

I just rest my headset around my neck and shape the mic so its right near my mouth.
The band (the part that would normally go from one ear over my head to the other ear) is very thin so its very comfortable... or at least not uncomfortable.

i do the desktop mounted mic and yes, it does interfere with the ingame noise a little (or vice versa....?) but after doing it like this for 4 or 5 years..... ive gotten used to it. i tried the headphone thing last year but sometimes the noises can be too loud all of a sudden and it kinda hurts.... my two cents.

I use the below microphone. Actually I havent used it much at all in game so I don't know how well it works. Its in my flat mates room atm, lol. I have very loud 5.1 setup and didn't want a headset

I use both lapel + Headset with mic, depending on how the wife is and what show she is watching, or if my daughter is asleep.
Both work well, but i have issue with my SB Live's front aux connections & BF2 using em so mostly its the lapel.

I've got speakers and sennheiser headphones and a little plantronics stick mic. I sound fine whether I use speakers or not. My clanmates can hear the background noise, but it doesn't drown out my voice.

I tried the mic only because I have a 5.1 setup, but the fact remains that is is hard to hear people clearly without a headset.  As soon as I start using VOIP I always switch to headset.  It really helps for being able to understand what people are saying.

Another thing I think many people forget, is to change the Sounds and Audio Devices setting in the control panel to whichever setup they are using.  It really does make a diference in clarity to have the settings match the sond device you area using.

I used to use a desk mic with no problems, I went to a headset so I wouldn't bother my wife in the next room. I found that tweaking the audio settings can do a lot in solving most of the problems that can arise. The most important thing to do is to mute your mic. That doesn't stop you from transmitting, it stops the sound from replaying through your own speakers.

Depending on how your audio preferences are set, and the physical location of your microphone in relation to your mouth, and the other speakers, you'll just have to play with the sensitivities in your computer audio settings as well as in the BF2 audio setting if you're using in game VOIP.

I AM NOT AN EXPERT WITH COMPUTERS, and some of my advice might be contradicted by someone with a lot more knowledge on the subject, but this is what I did . . . with a lot of success.

Can anybody recommend a lapel mic?  I've hated every gaming headset I've tried, including the lousy Logitech I currently own.  Sounds like mud and it's uncomfortable to boot.  I would like to use my Sony in-ear headphones with a lapel mic.  No one seems to make anything but on or over the ear headsets.

I use my old usb headset from SOCOM on the PS2. Start up BF2 first then plug in the headset so the game sounds come through my speakers, but voip or TS come through the single earpiece it well cool as i still have the surround sound from my speakers and can clearly hear any voice commication.

i used to just use my webcame but any mic that is not directly next to your mouth sucks for voip.
