I know Ive seen another post on this subject , I searched but couldnt find it.

Ive been playing BF2 problem free for a while, I start my game this morning and every setting is set to default. all keybinds, audio, and video.  all set to default.   whats the deal with this crap.
the only thing I can think of is I`ve always started from the desktop shortcut but today i used the one on the program files list, ( clicking start then clicked bf2 )  I had that same issue with other games I just wonder if thats the case here as well.

almost forgot when i started it my screen name wasnt even listed I had to reenter my nick and pass also

Chances are, that program caused it. Don't know what that program is, but it may have used a different path to your profile location. Try using your desktop icon, and see if your account in listed.

BTW, this help section is for BF2s.com, not game help. You might want to look here after a mod gets a hold of this.

OOPS ,

but the PROGRAM I used is called windows XP. I started the game today by clicking the ( start ) button in the bottom left corner of the screen then the ( program files ) list comes up I used that icon rather then the desktop icon today. and no I tried the desktop icon  and found the same problem.

Whether you start with the desktop shortcut or the one in Program files, it shouldn't make a difference.
All of your key bindings, video settings, etc. are in a folder associated with your user profile.  Each profile has its own bindings.  If you had to reenter your nick and password then either:
a: Your profile somehow got deleted
b: BF2 is trying to find your profile in a different location.
Your profiles are stored in your My Documents (My Documents\BF2\...\profiles\0001* for example).  Are you logging into Windows under the same user?

* this isn't exactly right but close.  I don't have BF2 installed on this system so can't see the exact path.

Oh, I misunderstood.. sorry "Program files".

check the "My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles" folder, see if there are any folders that start with "000?" ? being 1-(how ever many profiles you have). Open the "Global.con", make sure the GlobalSettings.setDefaultUser "0002" is set to the proper profile number.
