Let me clarify somewhat. No changes to anything other than replacing the following vehicle spawns should be made for a ranked 'Vehicle-Lite' option to ALL maps:
o Replace Tank/APC spawns with Heavy Jeeps
o Replace AA vehicle spawns with Light Jeeps
o Remove Jets
o Replace Littlebird and Attack Helicopters with Transport Helicopters
That's it. Its pretty simple and would breed new life into EVERY map. To be honest I would play maps that I don't play often if they had this option; as it stands now I pretty much only play Karkand.
Imagine playing Wake Island 2007 with 3 Blackhawks and 4 RIB spawns on the carrier? Or Gulf of Oman with 2 Heavy Jeeps and 1 Transport Helicopter spawn at the Airfield.
See what makes BF2 are the vehicles. This separates BF2 from all the other games because they implemented vehicles that were balanced and had checks. No need to have a mode that has 2x hp...all that does it make Medics godly and Engineers useless. I would definiately play on ranked servers that had ALL maps in rotation with this 'Vehicle-Lite' option.
Do you want to spawn on the Dalian Plant USMC carrier when there's only 4 RIBs for your entire team of 64? No. But if there were 4 RIBs and 3 Blackshawk helicopters then it wouldn't be so bad, would it?
I'm not saying to remove the non-ranked Infantry-only option as implemented in the 1.40 BETA, but I am suggesting adding a ranked 'Vehicle-Lite' option. I think if you spawned at a flag away from the action and there was a jeep or transport helicopter nearby you wouldn't mind. The alternative would be to hoof it...

heyho guys, got some stuff while playing BF2...dont know if this is the right thread to talk about that, but here it goes:

- If there are 3 guys to get a chopper, 2 of them are in the same squad, they both should get it...some sort of preference
- In my opinion the jets can fly a bit tooooo slow....i had it on dalian plant that it was nearly as slow as my apc....
- there should be some sort of "Reward" for squad play to avoid "Lone Wolfs" because that really suxxxxx...especially if u play commander and then only got 1 or 2 squads to play with..... maybe that i get an assist point for each five points each member makes....think that would help....

Is 1.4 worth downloading or is it worse than 1.3? I know it has a new map but i hear the new hitpoint system is crappy.

In the end I think 1.4 will be worth the download. I think 1.4 beta is worth the download. I played it for a whole night and had no problems at all. The only prob is very few servers obviously.
I think to some people... no patch will ever be good enough so y'all gotta just try it before asking if it's worth it. It only takes a few minutes to do and it's free.

Its worth it. An the hitpoints is in Infantry only mode... which isnt done yet because its a BETA and there are ranked servers so you can still get points, most of them in Europe. And its better than 1.3. And you can even Safe copy the old version if the other doesnt work. Just read the readme file along with the patch.Ryker wrote:

3: The stupid "Private Bug" has come back, I never saw it in 1.3 but now it happens again.
4: This private bug also appeard in a another form; My rank is correct but I cant choose any unlocks. Unlocks was allowed in this server as you can see in the upper left cornmer; G3:

5: Reloading a sniper rifle sometimes misses the animation...
and sometimes you have to reload the weapon 2 times when its empty (Maybe because of lag).
6: When commander is spotting an enemy to soon after he has scanned the map the enemy doesnt show up on the minimap/map. Here is a bad example of this when there was just one enemy left before we won, you can see the commander screaming "Fientligt Pansar" = "Enemy Armor". But no Red tank appears in the map:
7: Rockets still goes trough cars, and from HJ8/TOW.
8: Sometimes you are unable to use sprint, you have to press the button several times for it to work (Dosnt happen to often)
9: In Singleplayer the Engineers is always youre most dangerous enemies.
10: You cant kill someone with knifes in one hit. ALWAYS you can just see the puff of dust 2/3 times before killing the bastard.
11: Sometimes you cant hear the Artillery firing before the bombs suddenly falls down.
12: Sometimes you cant hear the sound from Tanks shooting the rockets.
13: Wake Island cant be played in Singleplayer.
14: When you are dead, and dont want to spawn for a while and are pressing "C" (Default camera view) to see other players, the stupid spawnscreen keeps comming up all the time. If you want to spawn you can just press "Enter" youreself. Just let it come up one time when you die (If you have not chosen youre spawpoitn already) then never again if you not press "Enter" youreself.
15: When updating the favorites list, almost the whole list dsappears. But it comes back when restarting the game.
16: The "Play Now" button is USELESS. Get rid of it.
17: We need more info in the "Slow" serverbrowser. (Inf only... etc etc..

I tried the beta patch and I couldnt even join a game. CTD right when I skipped the game movie everytime. EA's revert to 1.3 theory was a bust too, but everything is fine. I did however go to a friends who had 1.4 working. I agree with everything in JON.ANTONSSON's post, no exception, me and my friend experimented with it for at least three hours, through every kit, tank, plane, helo. And my list is roughly the same as above.

Just a suggestion....I think if you lay/stand next to supply drops...you should be able to change your kit at that time as well.

but seriously a Game should not have a BETA patch over one year after release. that is not how software companies, good one's anyway should operate.
patch is fine, but a beta patch? give me a break. wake up people! we have been beta testin this godamn game since day 1. when it supposdely went GOLD. which means its gold, not bronze like it has been after the onslaught of updates.
EA/dice should do what Play NC has done with games such as autoassault, and city of villians.
make the game beta before it goes gold. and have people sign up formerly to playtest it.
