My new computer is gonna have these.
2Gigs of DDR2 6400 RAM
nVidia GeForce 7900GT SuperClocked
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+
250GB 7200RPM hard drive
DVD burner and DVD drive
600W power supply
A case with a bunch of fans +more that I am going to add
A motherboard that can support 8GB of RAM and 2 PCI E x16 cards,  2 PCI E x1 Slots(what kind of cards use this?), and 3 PCI slots so I can throw my old nVidia GeForce 5200 in there incase I have a problem.

Is that gonna run BF2 Maxed out with 1024*768 resolution and 4x AA with frame rates above 80 at all times?

without any biased opinions on which manufacturer you follow could someone explain to me what the difference is between an x800xl and a 6800gs both 256 because i know the prices are similar but i'm not sure what separates them in terms of performance?

"you thinks those are old, i play with a radeon 9600 pro."

!!!
BS thats old. Ive got an Nvidia 5200 128mb AGP 8X. Now thats older than Jesus!

If ATI, it would be the X1900, but Nvidia, the 7800 or 7900 range.

Quick googlefight.com shows that ATI wins. But im an Nvidia supporter.

and you believe him unless he has SLI... 90-100fps... thats kinda of impossible in high settings w/ an uber high resolution....
yeah hes lieing... i have dual 7900gts in sli and i only get those fps when im in an empty server. under heavly load im a like 75 steady fps.....i just read his comp stats.. definately possible.. i recant my previous statement. nice rig.
O.k., I went back in-game with FRAPS turned on.  I set it to randomly take one screenshot every ten seconds while I played a few rounds of Karkand on a 64 person server.  I think it was "ESF clan something or other" server.

I realized I was exagerrating about my video performance- however only in that it would dip into lower fps than I was thinking it did.  I wasn't "lying" - I was accidentaly exagerrating .  I do get 100fps a lot of the time, but in battles,  it is 75-90 usually.  Usually I don't have fraps on or even care, since it is always so smooth, but this was interesting looking at the fps in the screenshots after the game was over.

Anyway, I picked some screenshots to show how it is in certain situations.  In the roughest situtations, it drops all the way down in the 60fps range- but is usually around 85-90.  At any rate, it isn't enough to notice any slow downs- ever.

These screenshots are all in 1920x1200x32 and are just randomly shot by fraps every 10 seconds.  You end up with some pretty cool shots when it's taken in the middle of battle.

Check em out, there's a few cool shots that fraps took for me.  BTW- the FPS counter is on the top left.

This first one is the slowest fps shot of the bunch, at 61fps.  It is shot just as the rocket leaves the tube, and at the time there is a major battle going on.  That jeep just drove past and I spun and fired a rocket.  I missed, and was soon killed from behind me- but oh well.

shotInAlley

Mountains in this shot make for higher fps.  Anytime these are in view, my fps doesn't drop much.  Also, my fps won't go above 100- despite having vertical synch turned off (my refresh is 60 anyway, since I have an LCD - a pimpin Dell 24")
sneakingTowardSuburbs

another "low" fps screenshot.  I'm not sure why it was so low except maybe because it's doing the muzzle flash at this instant(?).

I really like this one:

EDIT:  also, keep in mind in looking at these screenshots that these are .jpgs, so some quality gets lost.  I couldn't take these in bmps, because they are too big and Photobucket downrezes images if they are over 1meg.  At any rate, the quality is still pretty good in jpgs.

Nvidia 6800 GS PCIe in one comp, ATI 9600 Pro in another

Nvidia - mostly all settings on HIGH, runs without a prob
ATI - mostly all settings on MEDIUM, runs usually without a prob (overclocked :S - BF2 doesn't seem to like that too well)

As I have had many comps with both ATI and Nvidia, I'm on the fence with regards to which I like better.  The ATIs IMHO look better, renders better, processes / functions not as well as Nvidia.

Nvidia just plain seems to out perform ATI in processing power...for me, at a slight sacrifice to visuals.  Would be nice for a card to put out both processing goodness and stunning visual clarity...although I'm not really complaining about either (except I agree with <SS>SonderKommando, ATI drivers/Catalist is garbage).

Tried both types and the best for me is my Radeon ATI 1800XT - it's maxed out on all options and looks as good as my HD TV.  The damn thing's so good that the other day a guy complained that it tickled when I tea bagged him

I've had too many problems with ATI cards. That and knowing nVidia own rights to a dead graphics card developer whom I still love and miss very much (3DFX), I'll have to say nVidia... sadly...

I so wish 3DFX were still around, I wish it so very much.
