If 26.5 million vets had info on a single disc that means either:

a) That's one big, fucking, ultra government uber l33t disc
b) The files are pretty fucking small
C) I dont know jack shit about how many .txt files can fit into a disc
d) I didn't bother reading the article

Damn, I wish I still just partied and got smashed the whole time still.... otherwise I wouldn't feel the need to point out that:

a) A DVD holds 4.7 billion bytes
b) Which allows a maximum of about 173 kb per record
c) Which is quite alot
d) But it almost certainly ended up in a skip, cos it was just a normal burglary and the guy probably left it in the drive or something stupid like that...

My first question is why would one analyst have records of nearly 26,000,000 veterens at home?

But, it is the US government, so anything could happen.

That ONE guy was probably responsible for all 26 million veterens records.

Talk about cutbacks and bad service

Did it say what kind of disk it was?  Was it a DVD?

I do not know why someone, outside of the government, would put something on a disk that could so easily be stolen or lost.  Brilliant Government. (-1 Karma for you Government)

Word of mouth over here has it that the government knew about this for over a week before they bothered releasing news of the theft. Roll out the conspiracy theories.

Why do people steal?   I do not know their mind.
Why does the government keep it secret?    To protect their ass for as long as they can.
Why do people blame Bush for everything?  Because they are liberals and enjoy blaming the president.

Too many whys to answer.

Well, at least the laptop was found unharmed.

So much for the big media coverage about it being stolen.  although, I haven't heard much in the media about it being recovered.
