Hello I just bought a new GFX card, the XFX GeForce 7900 GT overclocked. And I was just wondering if I should buy a new PSU just in case i need it.

The one I have now is 420W, but I have 5 fans hooked up, 2 HD's, 4 neons, fan controller, neon controller, and of course the main stuff I need.

Do you think that this will be enough or should I get a new one? Also my graphics card is overclocked, some people told me that that is bad, and some people told me it was good. Is it??

Well thanks ahead of time and some please help me!!!

if it comes overclocked then it cant be bad

500 wouldnt hurt ..worst case scenario you burn up the psu

You could always unhook the pointless neon lights and controller...

thats enough, 7900gt only needs 350 watt

So with everything hooked up, including the fan's, neon's etc., I won't blow the PSU that i have now?

i wouldnt be 100% about that the card itself needs 350 the cpu + mobo + hd's + all the other bullshit needs a good amount as well

also the qualty of the psu matters alot if it came with the case and your case isnt the greatest chances are good its average to crap. im not aware of burning the psu harming anything else so id give it a shot and when it burns up get a new one ? i have read that having more power than you need can get a little more out of your system and a pretty decent psu is only a hundred bucks

you got 400-500 to drop on a 7900 go get a psu

that should be enough ... i easyly run all the stuff in my sig (including 5 HDs, neon lights and lots of other useless stuff) of a 485W PSU, therfore yours should be ok (since your gfx is not as power hungry as a 1900xt)
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

450 Watt is the minimum to keep the card stable
Im suprised your 420W is not dead from all of that.

nope, sure isn't.

The brands that I trust (with my thousands of dollars of hardware):

Antec
Seasonic
PC Power and Cooling
OCZ
Mushkin (have heard some good things about their new line)
Enermax
Sparkle
Fortron (FSP Group)
Zippy

and I am sure I am missing some, but that is the basics.

99% of all psus you will find for less than $50 are complete crap.  First things first, that power supply only gives 25A on the +12V rail (if you have a somewhat new computer - assuming you do since you are buying PCI-E video cards) then it will need a bit more than that to support your card and entire computer.  That is to assume a safe level of operation and little wavering of voltage.  I would look for a psu that offers a combined (over 2+ rails) or 30A+ on a single rail.  When talking about dual rails I wouldn't get anything less than dual-17A rails.

Ultra PSUs are actually on my do-not-buy list as I have read about a few that have actually exploded inside of people's cases.  Red_Wolf you are very lucky that yours hasn't failed on you.  I haven't seen a single rating of the Ultra PSUs from PC Gamer (I have been a subscriber for 6 years) - I know they have the ads in there, but that doesn't mean they endorse them.

I am not a big fan of them because they are cheaply made.   I would the enermax that you linked to.
