Need some help w/ mic

UPDATE:
I have now returned my webcam w/mic and picked up some logitech 350 series headset.
it works just fine when i use the voicesetup file in my battlefield 2 folder but when im in game i get nothing,
am i supposed to be able to hear myself in game? also no green mic was popping up on the side of the screen like when i see others talk.
any suggestions?

Try the bf2voicesetup app. You can find it in the BF2 directory.

C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2

That is the default location.

double click on 'voip' in ur bf2 folder and that will allow u to install it.

NOTE, i had issues with my headset due to sound manager, or soundman, make sure all settings are OFF.

also i noticed with Windows XP sp2 media center edition w/ vista pack seems to 'mute' ur mike EVERYTIME u restart the computer, so u might just wanna checkthat a coupla times and make sure ur mike isnt muted (just in ur menubar/volume settings.

Hey man. I have found the BF2 VoIP setup really poor.
If you want to make sure your mic is working try using the audio test in windows messenger. If that is working OK, then BF2 should as well.
BF2 uses the default windows audio settings.

If you find that the mic is really quite then try this;
Go to the Sound and Audio devices in the control panel, click on advanced, options, properties, recording, OK, properties, advanced controls, click the microphone advanced button, microphone boost.

updated... thx for the help, its still not working though, i think there is a problem with the webcam so im calling the company tomorrow, maybe i'll just return it and get a headphone/mic set tomorrow.

if you have never used voip with bf2 you may be using it wrong. Just making sure your using it correctly. if its workin when u hit the chat button a green mic will show up under the huds tac map.
Using VoIP In Game

If you are not in a squad or the commander VoIP will not work.
As a Commander press V to speak to the selected Squad’s Leader.
As a Squad Leader Press V to speak to your Commander and press B to issue an order to your squad.
As a Squad Member press B to speak to your Squad Leader.

But ya those mics u set on the desk a foot or 2 away from u dont really work well with this game or gaming in general... better off getting a headset.
