Please, for the love of God, reason, or just plain common sense, do not post a response to this topic until you've read TehSeraphim's Premier Guide to Debate. Please.

I want to open up a serious discussion about the core differences between Christianity and Islam. I will start by saying I'm a nearly-atheist-agnostic, so you all know where I'm coming from religiously.

I intend no offense to anyone except flamers.
I think many of the major differences can be boiled down to this:

Islam was designed as a winner's religion (politically). It was formed at a time and place when there was no clear single ruling power (warring Arab tribes in Saudi Arabia ca. 600 AD). The political field was wide open and Islam designed a way to create law and order from a position of rulership. It's holy books and traditions provide a framework for what laws there should be, how wars should be fought, etc. Governance is natural to Islam.

Christianity was designed as a loser's religion (politically). It was formed at a time and place when there was a clear ruler (Roman Empire ca. 0 AD). The political field was closed, and Christianity designed a way to live a good, faithful life without unduly challenging the secular power. It accepted a great deal of submission to Caesar. Christianity's holy books provide a framework for how live in poverty and humility. The New Testament does not provide a framework for laws and wars. Governance is unnatural to Christianity.

Therefore Christianity is about humility and forgiveness, and Islam is about authority and justice.
Therefore Christian civilizations get @#!$ing stupid when they are top dog and Muslim civilizations get ^$!*ing stupid when they are not top dog.

Behold my grand simplification (I know, I know, both religions were still changing and adapting long after their "formative periods").

Who agrees, who disagrees, and who has something to add?

*EDIT*: typos

Constantine was the Roman leader who embraced Christianity. And he did it to stop his Empire from splitting into Christian and Pagan factions and evert a  possible civil war. Your aware the Caesar isn't what Romans called there leader but is the name of an Emperor.

You have got to be fucking kidding me.  Chrisianity is tied very heavily to fuedalism, which was about maintaining power structures.

I'm not sure I entirely agree with that.  Faith can inspire great virtue in many people.

Islam is an example of what happens when people follow false prophets(war, poverty, no freedom and sand). Islam was made by a warrior/wannabe leader and christianity was made by a humble loving guy.

actually, he didnt do it to stop it from splitting. He was in a huge battle and his forces were massly outnummebered, so He did it because he  promised god that if god help Constantine win the battle, then he would convert his whole empire into Christianity. He won, so he waited until he was dying on his death bed to convert the Roman empire into Chritstianity.

Also, Ceasar means king so, you're wrong again...

no actually Christianity was copied from Judaism and Islam copied both, if you look at texts comparing Islam, Christianity and Judaism you will find that most of the scriptures written are very very similar. and on a side note Judaism copied Zoroastrianism which was one of the first religeons that embraced a single deity

Ah, well. If you want to discuss difference between Islam and Chrisiatiny, you should rather go to some specialised forum. And you should study both Bible and Koran closely to compare the religions.
The simplication is kinda funny though.

Anyway,

it's easy if you try,
no hell below us,
above us only sky.

Imagine all the  people,
living for today yu-huh.
You may say I'm a dreamer
but I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us,
and the world will be as one.

Imagine there's no countries,
it isn't hard to do,
nothing to kill or die for,
and no religion too.

Imagine all the  people,......and so on.

It's not that I'm a big fan of him, but I like some of his ideas. Hippies ftw!

Constantine converted to Christianity for purely political reasons IMO and although you cant spell Caesar properly you are right about the emperor thing!

Christianity isnt a copy of judaism. Jesus was jewish. They have the same books and God, its just christians think christ came and jews are still waiting for him. Sorry about the spelling on the karma, hit go when i tried to fix the end.

Islam is built on the teachings of Mohammad... Only has as much to do with the Old Testament as Christianity and Judaism.

Oh, Jesus was a hebrew. He wasn't a person practicing the Jewish faith, therefore he wasn't a jew.

Judaism = The Saviour is coming.
Islam = The Saviour is coming, but until then you listen to Mohammad.
Christianity = The Saviour has been, gone and will come again.

cyborg-ninja, many count atheism, agnosticism and Scientology as religions.

By your definition, Taoism and Bhuddism are not religions either. You don't go to a church or worship a higher being with either of those two religions.
Whoa... Can't believe these forums are still kicking.
