wait until AM2 comes out, a lot cheaper than intels current cpu, but if u can wait until july, get conroe. for vid card get 7600gt or sumthing like that, way better than 6600gt
Yeah, XP will be replaced, Vista is coming out soon, Time? I'd say as soon as your computer gets plugged in............
WIN 95 FTW!
WIN 95 FTW!
I love building computers but i hate wiring all the wires from the psu to the mobo. can be very frustrating.
I built my computer myself.
AMD64 3500
1gb Corsair Value ram (2x512)
160 WD Sata HDD
Thermaltake Case + 460w psu
Just a normal £15 dvd drive.
GF 6800GS
your system is very good, bar the 6600, go with the 6800GS because its the best card before the 7000 series, but there is no point wasting all that money on a 7800 etc cause its going to be replaced soon.

At $NZ 2.5K, you have plenty to work with.
This old post of mine is still valid on what would be a perfectly acceptable computer, and for a bit less than your ($USD 1.5K) budget, so there'll be room for extra shipping expense, if necessary. The only change I would make:
Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD2500KS
to
Western Digital Caviar RE WD2500YD
...only because the RE has a longer warranty.
Good luck, and don't overspend this year...

I always prefer to buy the larger components through local shops, rather than dealing with possibly ludicrous shipping charges through post if something goes wrong, requiring an RMA. So take that into consideration.Tyferra wrote:
Well, like I've hinted, I am getting a new computer soon. However, I've been shafted up the arse by computer dealers before, (not litereally you sick fucks,) and so like I said a while ago on some thread, I'm now asking your help to make sure I get the right one, because after all, you're the ones I'll be complaining to about crappy computers as you well know.
Since I've been using old old old computers for all of my life, I don't know jack shit, (I know his cousin Big Mike 'Bull' Shit though,) So I'l be typing this stuff off a list.
Processor: Pentium 4 #641 3.2 GHz 2MB 64bit LGA775 800 MHz FSB
Memory: 2GB, (2 x 1GB BBRII 667MHz dual channel configuration.)
Graphics: GIGABYTE GeForce 6600 256MB graphics card *256MB DDR *PCIE X 16 graphics *128-bit Memory interface *8-Pixel Pipeline *400MHz RAMDAC *TV out *DVI out *TwinView *Silent Pipe
So yeah, I don't know what the fuck I just typed.
Those are the important things right? Anything else you need to know?
Cheers for any help.

i would definitely wait if i were you..
new type of cpu is coming out in july.. it will cost less and perform about 20% better than current ones
bunch of people here is just mediocre in my opinion.. apprently tyferra doesn't really know about computer components yet these noobs just yell like "oh dude get 93746xtxgt becuase i think it's good"
wtf?
anyway we need to know what kind of motherboard you are getting too.. some cpu doesn't support some and some doesn't support the ram you posted above.. one that you said is ddr2 and most of the mobo out right now doesn't support it
long ass stroy.. but my point is, wait till july for new stuffs to come out..
even if you aren't gonna get the new ones, the current ones will be way cheaper by then
i have a similar rig to one of the above posters
operon 170
2 gig g. skill ddr 500
x1800xt
80 gig raptor
adighy2 platinum
it flies through everything i thow at it great computer
as of now amd is definately the way to go for gaming. intel only really beats them at video encoding
very true. thats why i never wait for the next big thing, otherwise i would still be using my P1jaymz9350 wrote:

once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.
gfx card is way too low, 8 pipes is really low... 7600gt has 12 pipes (4 more pixels per clock a second) but i would say get this board http://www.asus.com/products4.aspx?l1=3 … odelmenu=1 which is expensive... but it will support intels new cpu (conroe) get some decent ddr2 800mhz from crucial (400usd for 2GB). but i would stick a cheap celeron to that board first, 7600gt, then when conroe comes out (in 2 months) buy it. conroe is a HUGE improvement from current intel cpus... and its crushing amd cpus as well. 500 usd conroe faster than 1000usd fx-60 overclocked to 2.8ghz by 5 seconds in super pi 1 mb (now thats REALLY fast) 40 fps faster in fear.... u get the idea. 2.4ghz conroe (315 usd) is as fast as fx60...
i'm stuck at 2.7 on air (soon hoping for water if i can sell off my old parts). heat is not my friend this time of year. i can't go over 1.45 volts and thats still not enough to get past 2.7 but i haven't played too much with it. i messed around for a bout a week with the overclock and just gave up so i could acutually use it. besides that any more is just greedy lolmax wrote:

Well vista is "Supposed" to be release 3/4 quater this year. I would NOT hold out on building a computer just because you taking microsofts word on it.
I never buy an OS on release. The spend the next 6 months working out bugs and patching it.
"Tom's Hardware" says a good rule of thumb is wait at least 6 months before picking up a new OS. I have lived by that and never had a problem. (Lucky me)

why can't you go past 1.45v? Are you running the computer in a super hot room? You should be able to go up to 1.55 at least with no worries.jaymz9350 wrote:

@ 1.45v my temps are in the mid to high 50's at times too high for me. @1.4v i run about 47-50slo5oh wrote:

If you're intrested in buying your own shit and putting it into a case I'd recommend www.newegg.com (don't know if I can do that) 'cause that's where i got all my shit for a decent price.
AMD 3500 2.2
only 1 gig of ram, just plain ol' corsair (gettin more with the other vid card soon!)
Maxor 300 gig SATA hd
Epox SLI mobo
7800 gtx, gettin another one soon
thermaltake 500w power supply
and a fan that moves 87.7 cubic feet of air a minute, only need one and the 55.7db isn't as bad as it sounds if your case is under something... mine's under my desk and it's still pretty quiet.

Update:
Okay, well since I took too long deciding what I was doing and summing up my funds, I finally went to the guy and had another chat.
Basicly everything's the same in terms of speed etc. except I get an extra 40GB of hard drive and unfortunatly, most unfortunatly, I couldn't get the 6600 Graphics card, so sadly, have to settle for a 7600. Yeah, I'm gutted too.
I'm getting Gigabyte's M3S. Some of you computer guys might know what this means, but all in know is that it's the top-of-the-line stuff we can get here in Noisyland at the moment.
Best of all I know the solid date of when I can get it:
July 16.
I managed to get some extra cash be agreeing to dress up like a dog for a week in July, so I get that last bit of cash I need. THIS IS ACTUALLY GOING TO HAPPEN! FUCKEN A!
Guys, thank you so much for your help and support, I took all your suggestions to the guy and he's reshuffled so I can get the best stuff possible for as little as possible. You guys RULE!

Uuhh, okay, although I'm not good at this.
200GB Hard Drive
2 GB RAM
7600 Graphics, 256MB, (not sure which brand or whatever.)
3.2 Ghz
That's all that matters right?
If you ask nicely I might even upload a picture.

Building looks like fun. My friend ordered his unassembled so he could save 20 bucks and so I could have fun building it. My other more retarded friend ordered his fully assembled by accident and now it works weird. I'll set a record probably, how many other 14-year olds can fully assemble a computer by themselves? This is what they use: http://www.cpusolutions.com/html/index.htm although this is the one he chose to customize. His computer will be here on Sunday, or at the latest: Tuesday. The only thing that looks hard is putting the connectors for the ports on the front of the case on the right pins on the mobo, like the USB port, 1394 and audio port, maybe the CD drives too. That one pic made the wiring look like a bitch but i'm not worried about that, although the case will have a window. Not looking forward to the fact that this case is notoriously sharp from the Newegg reviews but i've got thick skin(My last tetnis booster was two years ago so I i'm good to go, lol) and i've had stitches before.
