Does it hurt the computer if u press it? It isnt the same as pulling out the power plug right.

No, it won't hurt anything, it'll just reboot your system.

No and Correct.

The point of the reset button is that power in not dropped when it is pressed. This is far better for moving parts, and any component that does not reset itself on power off such as non volatile memory.

But as it's name suggests, it resets the system board to the power on state.

Hope this info helps.

it's always better to use the shut down menu to shutdown or restart the machine, but if it is hard locked, the reset button is the way to recover from that.  Avoid using the power button to turn it off really, it breeds BSODS and other disk errors

Wait wait wait, let me get this straight -- the reset button resets your computer?!?!

And for the record, only press it when you have to. Your PC could be writing a file, etc. and you can fuck your PC up if you just press it randomly. Although I find when I actually need to press it, it doesn't do any good as my PC is so locked up that an 8 second power button press is needed (hard shutdown as pressing the power button once will just tell Windows to shut down assuming you have it setup right).

agreed, which is why I recommended using the shutdown menu.  I've never been locked up so hard the reset button didn't work.  I've never had to resort to the power button unless the reset button was simply not installed on the case I was at

Only use it if your PC locks up.

Also you can hold the power button for 4 seconds to get the same effect without a restart.

If you use the FAT32 Filesystem you won't like this button. If you use NTFS  then you'll be fine.
