This afternoon I had crash to desktop about everytime I tried to join a game and this is what I did and now I have just tried to join 4-5 games without problems.

Useless tries:
- defragmentation
- deleting cache
- recreating paging file
- changing video drivers and\or settings
- deleting profile
- pressing ESC in stead of Join Game (no matter, it crashed anyway)

Succesfull try:
- Delete your paging file, download DISKEEPER, defragment the HD after having freed more than 20% of space in order to CREATE A CONTIGUOUS FREE SPACE FOR PAGING FILE OF at least THE DESIDERED AMOUNT, remake paging file and after it assure IT IS PLACED ALL IN THAT SPACE with "ANALYSE" function of Diskeeper... it shows paging file in yellow. Recommended size of paging file: fixed min. and max size @ your RAM size or 1,5 times your RAM size.

THE IMPORTANT THING OF THIS IS TO ARRIVE WITH A CONTIGUOUS PAGING FILE AT END (no matter which Hard-Disk).

lol its got naff all to do with fragmentation.. its a game bug...
i have 0% fragmentation, using aforementioned diskeeper,
and contiguous page files etc..
still does it everyone now and then...

i found if you jsut wait 10-20 seconds then press it it doesnt ctd

dont knwo why, but it seems to work for me

Ditto that. I rarely get CTD by just having a bit of patience and waiting til the HD light stops flashing.

how would i create a paging file? What is a paging file, I think you should put that in.

Hi all.

What helped me out (put this already in another thread, but there are so many 1.3 treads now.. )

Well thare can be some issues with a fragmented drive.. but creating a fixed page file did not help me this time.

About paging files and defrag - do a normal windows defrag:
START - Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Disk Defragmenter. When started this program - press defrag. This might take 30 mins to a couple of hours depending on your specs/hardware.

(Before you do this - close all open applications that you do not need)

What helped in my case though.

- remove auto join.
- full 1.3 install.
- had to recheck - hardware in audiosetting.

Now I played for 1,5 days and no CTD whatsoever.

Hope that this helps some guys as well.

deleting your page file will not help, that is some bullshit suggestion and it wont help you at all.

here's the soultion and a small explanition:

you may have noticed that whenever you have joined games in the past, all the action (kills and such) from when you joined the server up until the map has loaded scrolls down the screen. the problem appears to be that the maps aren't actually fully loaded when you hit "join game", perhaps it's the history of the game though that time frame that is crashing the game.

so, all you have to do is keep clicking "auto ready" until you hear it beep, then you know the map is ready. this works 100% of the time for me and my friends that play.
