Today I read in one of our local newspapers, that President Puttin has ordered his special services to "obliterate" the insurgents that have killed 4 of Russia's diplomats.

How do you feel about Russia entering the Iraq conflict in this war?
Should they have entered earlier to support their allies?

I agree GunSlinger, but Russia will not be hampered by the media as much, so let 'em loose. Better late than never, I guess...

Kinda an ally is not an ally.

Since when is Russia allied to Britain or the US?  They sides with France and China on the invasion.

I think the Russians should enter Iraq. They should send Spetznaz, then all hell will break loose

'Cos that'd be just great
Unless they're only sending their elite, I can't see how it can be a good thing.  Last I heard Russian training is worse than American, and I'll bet that their ROE will be more lax as well.

After seeing the school and Theater sieges I think the ruskies would make matters worse.

I'm curious about what you expected them to do in those situations.  Honestly, how could they have done better?

I got the impression Putin was refering more to Russia's special services (i.e. the modern KGB, can't remember new name), not troops.

privet.... na.... vechirinki... tovarischi....

or something like that.

Fleder you russky? Or just using translation software.

On topic: I am really hesitant at thispoint, but let the Spetz do their thing. The Russians won't use the OSS (former KGB) do their thing. I believe they are more internal now, similar to the FBI? Someone correct me if I am wrong.

However.... if the Rus sent in Spetz to start bumping people off, it could be a good thing. The US has deniability, and the insurgent leaders start to disappear.

Hehe, Darth_Fleder, the staunchly conservative, capitalistic, pro-war on terror Russky. . Nope, but my wife is. I can speak a little bit of Russian but do rely on translation software to help with spelling and grammar.

On topic:
After doing some reading of the headlines about the affair, I will have tone down my welcome a little bit. How typical to blame us for 'lack of security' and for not protecting their diplomats. Their rhetoric is a back-handed way to use their military in Iraq while not alienating the disgruntled masses of Europe.

You know, with all of their problems with Chechnya and the terrorist activities these rebels have instigated, they are no one to criticizing anyones ability to provide security anywhere...i.e. Moscow subway bombing, the school takeover in Baslan and the theater takeover in Moscow to name a few.

Granted, but how many foreign diplomats have those terrorists killed (honestly asking)?  Besides which, Russia gets in a shitfight every time it uses the military against them, whereas the US army is the security in Iraq.

I think any thing in the aid to defeat terror and restore piece is a good thing, russia's now involved and every couple of months other countries get involved. Considering the russian gov own the media they wont get critised on a national level. Wether it be on a spooks mission or "obliterate" them with the spetz its showing the russian are a power that are still proud. although kinda weird considering they probably supplied the weapons (black market).

I got negative karma for this because the US has the best military training in the world, apparently.  WTF?  By definition, that means Russians have worse training.  Although, if it's going to come up, yes I believe that US has worse training than, say, Britain, which makes sense.  Britain is a small nation and relies on a small, elite force, whereas the US is more concerned with numbers and technology.  But sure, whatever........

Only, no.  The Chinese and Russian Communists never got along very well, and after the death of Stalin this turned into a big divide between Russia and China.  I think you'll find they aren't exactly best of buds now, either.

bigp66 wrote:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Russia hasn't really associated with Iran since the collapse of the USSR has it?  If so, this is akin to arguing that the US and Iraq are allies (that is, the US and Saddam's Iraq were allies up until Saddam's defeat).

If you do want to list current allies, you might find Vietnam and Cuba still like them, but I'm not sure.

for a nationa of 300  million during wartime, the United States has very very small army right now as opposed to other conflicts.  In fact, numbers DONT mean shit in the army now a days the way it has been restructured within the last 5 years.  Our actual combat units are getting smaller and more effiecient, ofcourse i wouldnt expect anyone to know this.  but you still have a bunch of retards assuming they know everything about military matters.  look up Unit of Action, US Army
