I love hardcore snipers. (If you get someone that is plain obsessed with sniping and has never played any other kit) They have no concept of infantry combat.
An encounter goes like this. I'm spec ops in a good squad.
1) I see sniper, I fire. Sniper reacts and realizes I'm going to win in close range. and ducks. Sniper pops up, shoots me 1-2 times with pistol.
2) Sniper ducks again, comes up and shoots me with sniper rifle. I die.
3) Meantime, the grenade I threw before he shot me burns its fuse at his/her/its feet.
4) I get the kill, I type "silly dumbass snipers" and get revived.
Always fun.

Then again if you ever get that close... I tend to run away... towards my team... with their weapons. When a sniper and caught, if you have a chance to escape... use it.

5 man Squad - 3 Snipers, 1Spec Ops, 1 Support
12 man team - 8 Snipers (2/3rds of the team for the retards in the audience)
1 x M1Abrams Raping the shit out of us, only one anti tank (me), everyone else apparently dead, or sniping.
No spawn points exept for the Sharqi uncaps: Would any of you sniping fuckers do anything? No of course not, your 'hiding' on a rooftop racking up cheap kills, wasting server slots, and generally being a pointless cunt.
Doing anything to aid the team? Nah, completely out of the question.
Even spotting enemies might help, but most of you cant even be arsed to do that...
Snipers are pricks, pure and simple.
Now, I have no problem being sniped at, finding and destroying snipers is one of the things i enjoy most about BF2. Nade them, batter them with the g36, stab them in the nuts, what ever it takes..... If i see that glorious sniper crosshair on my minimap, I go OUT OF MY WAY to find it and kill it.
Oh, and all you 'LEET L33t 3LETE' sniping muppets who've been sounding of in this thread, none of your consistently mis placed shots piss me off, not once have i been impressed when shot finally hits its intended target and never have i thought it takes skill to snipe.

To get to the point (Finally), BF2 is supposed to be a team game, involving hopefully, teamwork, strategy, communication etc etc. The way some snipers want to play it is as TDM with arty strikes and the occasional UAV scan to make life easier. I have a suggestion, Fuck off back to CS if you want to snipe.
Finally, Anyone telling me to 'Get Skills' or 'Shut Up' etc etc, can of course, kiss my crusty arse.

I dont even play sniper anymore (much), but its by far and away the most fun kit, and it takes skill in a different way to stay alive. Much like prone spamming, diving etc.

Well this may be about all some of the really challenged people who like to snipe can manage but don't lump us all in that class. Some snipers (generally poor ones, but not always) are like this, just won't budge unless someone stuffs a grenade up their ass. And some of them will do little for the team's goals, but again don't lump 'em all in the same basket, not everyone who snipes plays that way and even if they do they don't serve no purpose if they get a decent number of kills and few deaths... that's a good ticket ratio which can contribute to a win.General Melchett wrote:

I often, not always by any means, finish in the top five or six on my team playing sniper (this is on servers with 50-64 players)... with practically zero use of any vehicle other than Humvees or Vodniks to get around faster... but I won't claim to be anything but average
