I donno, the way this is shaping out kinda looks like the pearl harbor of WWII - Roosevelt kinda wanted it to happen so he would have a reason to go to war.

Am I too far fetched on this one?
Nope your right on the money, why else did he keep them all in the bay except the aircraft carriers, to bait the japanese with a giant target. It worked.

A lot of people on this thread are blowing things WAY out of proportion. This isn't the first fracas between Hamas and the Israelis and it sure as hell won't be the last. What makes this incident so special?
Some points:

1) Syria have nothing to do with this and won't get involved. To do so would be suicidal on their part. Israel are not going to attack Syria because of this incident either.
2) Iran have nothing to do with this and won't get involved. Israel are not going to attack Iran because of this incident either.
3) No external parties are gonna get involved.

As an aside: blowing up the power station supplying 78% of Gaza (which will leave Gazans without electricity for 6-8 months) in retaliation for this incident - excessively heavy-handed COLLECTIVE punishment? I think so.
