I think there has been a slight increase in the the kubra map usage as more and more people get tired of karkand & wake, but not enough on this side of the pond. Daqing Oilfields & Dalian Plant are also getting more use. Kubra lends it self to some great sniping while providing plenty of cover and paths to flags. Its big so a snipers SPM will not be high on average but you hardly ever go the whole round with the USMC stuck in there base.Books_DCDF wrote:
I don't necessarily play a 24/7 server a lot, but I do tend to gravitate towards servers that are running Kubra. Like you, I appreciate its variety and open-ended possibilities; it offers a great mixture of topographical features, an abundance of scrub and brush to mix in with/hide among, excellent visibility, and lots of opportunity to engage targets in my preferred range (200-400+ meters). It's also a map where I feel a sniper with my approach (serving as a scout/spotter/long-range target interdictor/harrasser/base defender) can make a real and noticeable difference).
I believe I shot ROly POly over the weekend on Dragon Valley. I have a Screen capture I can post if anyone wants.Books_DCDF wrote:
But even more than that, it's the map where I've made acquaintances and developed friendships--some of them especially strong ones. I met Tahadar for the first time on Kubra, and Todd Angelo, mporlier, Robin Hood, ROly POly, and Mantisboy Sniper/Death to Bunnies (and others whose names escape me at the moment). Good people, all of them.
It so great to see someone "whore" (no offense) something other than a city map or wake. I will have to make a greater effort to play on Kubra more often cause it is my favorite map as well. Good luck getting to 8.o KDR and Happy Snipping!Books_DCDF wrote:
And, of course, though we'd bumped into each other on Mashtuur earlier, I feel I truly met [GDC]SinnFein on Kubra 8 months ago when he snuck up and knifed me in order to take my M24. I still remember it: "Ahhh, an M24. That's what I was looking for. Thanks, lad!" He was so friendly and engaging that we kept conversing the rest of the round as we hunted each other, and then teamed up the next round and started to get to know each other. We became a particularly effective sniping team through our time on Kubra, but we also became extremely close friends. In truth, much credit goes to Sinny for whatever accomplishments I've managed because he was usually there, teaching me new tricks or covering my back or calling out targets for me. (For those of you who've inquired about how to be successful at sniping, my best advice is to find a sniper as skilled and smart and unselfish as [GDC]SinnFein and partner up with him/her.) So, in summary, in addition to being a great map for sniping, Kubra has some special sentimental attachment for me.
