Asus EN7600GS PCIE 512MB

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6814121007

Will the difference between these two cards be noticeable because of the 256 MB more? What differences do they bring?

Also, this card has no fan. My computer isn't in the best ventilated area. Should I reconsider and buy a Radeon X1600? If I do, will I lose performance in games like Battlefield 2, F.E.A.R or Call of Duty 2?

Karma to whoever can help me with this dilemma.

I've got 7600GT and while the performance is excellent on BF2 and similar it has overheated before due to the lack of  a fan.  My room can get pretty warm though...   However, this only happens if my computer has been on all day followed by a serious BF2 session.

So this doesn't really answer your question but I hope it helps in some small way.

You should get better performance from the 512 card.

This said the 7600 256 card should be able to run 1280x1024 will all setting on high and 4xAA and still get over 50 FPS [I do], so the 512 will not be required for BF2. In other, newer games the extra memory could be of more use.

As for the heating issue, you could get an add-on cooler. I like the ones made by Arctic Cooling.
You could also try adding an exhaust fan that fits in the PCI slot next to your GPU.

Hope this helps man.

More memory could help a bit on the storage data that game gfx files need to be rendered during a game. It is still good to get a 512 MB, for that bit of extra performance and storage for gfx rendering in games.

I am betting the 512mb is GDDR2 while the 256mb is GDDR3. Links to these? RAM isn't the only thing you need to look at when buying a new card. Link it up.
Edited first post:

Links added.

EDIT 2:

Once, long ago I bought something off the internet. It never shipped. I was young and foolish but I now hold a small grudge against it. What happens in newegg.com doesn't ship my 2nd one, or I don't recieve it? The first one I can get at a store.

512MB only gets you a couple more FPS than 256.

Youll be able to pump up teh resolution on that 512MB model...But overall speed is pretty much the same. Go with 256. you cant go wrong...

Btw, the one you linked for the 512 is the same one you linked for 256.

You're better off getting an X1600 rater than a 7600. Same Price but the x1600 has a 256-bit core, the nVidia card ony has 128-bit (Which died off mostly around the time of the 9800).

Can you elaborate on what the core difference does?

+1 to everyone so far, thanks alot. So far I'm leaning towards either the 7600GT 512 MB or the Radeon X1600 XT.

Basically the GPU Processes data in bigger chunks.
Thanks, much appreciated.

I think I am going to buy a Radeon X1600. I don't care about fan noise, and I've used ATI cards all my life. I'm scared of changes. Last time I changed something it costed me $50 and 2 months of no PC.

I hope it will work well, because I have a Radeon X550 right now and can run Source (I know it's a bad game but it's a graphic whore = good reference) with a low of 70, an average of 100, and a high of 250. This is with ALL SETTINGS HIGH but set to DIRECT X 7.

256 bit doesnt always mean more performance, the 7600gt has faster memory speeds, and a higher core clock and 12 pipes...
