A friend of mine recently bought BF2 and installed it on his computer, when he goes to start the game, it goes to a black screen, then dumps straight back to desktop. Eveything I've tried has failed, any suggestions would be helpful, thanks.

Well, that was helpful, thanks for giving me absolutly nothing.
Have you installed the patches??? Seriously though there have been several people I remember with this problem & thats when the search button comes into play, you often can answer your own questions by the posts of the thousands of people before you & your friend that had this same problem.

sounds like his graphics card isn't good enough.
yup, maybe more ram too.
I had the same problem when I first got BF2. It's the Graphixs card. Hate to say it but ur guna have to get a new one :*(

Sounds like a graphic card issue.
Pff...i had this issue a little while back, i just uninstalled the game, removed everything to do with bf2, defraged, installed bf2 again then install the full 1.3 patch, hope it works, it has worked for me twice now.

to answer ur question, i had the same prob. too,, i dont know if this really works, but i went through my comp. and deleted every pointless thing i didnt need. it's been workin for me since, but it might just be a coincidence.
