ultra and the creative something option under hardware?

note my ac97 on-board lol can run up to high and hardware but it seems it slows down my PC... not a lot but compare to software/med

i have an audigy zs and it plays it on max. omg i can hear someone creepin up with my surround or if i want i can shut the back speakers off and jump in the j-10 and it sounds like im flying a glider, no engine noise. Luv it.

AC'97 slows down your computer because it draws from the computer processor.  The Audigy 2 ZS uses it's own processing chip on the card to do all the work with no help from the main processor, allowing your computer to run faster as long as you disable the AC'97.

ultra high is only for x-fi cards. i think it's sweet to have a tad bit better sound quality but only for bf2... wouldnt be worth the money imo (maybe later if more games support it) - if you are an audiophile in general (music, home cinema and so on) I think the x-fi cards are a sweet addition
