What is the point of this?

case in point - player chosen at random to illustrate my point - MERLIN12 http://bf2s.com/player/57505140/

Accuracy of 0.7222   -   this is based on 4 kills using a sniper rifle...  wtf?   how is this arrived at?  did he fire 5.5836 rounds?  No - it is based on 'number of shots' fired divided by 'number of hits' [not kills].
So he/she could have fired 10 000 shots and hit the target 7 222 times (with only 4 kills)... [not the actual truth]

Now this information ['number of shots' or 'number of hits'] is not provided by BF2s on yours stats [and I'm not that bothered], but my point is - what if someone who never has played sniper, used the sniper kit and only shot one shot killing one player - they would forever be at 1.0000...

I only see that this new Ranking is only going to interest... no-one.  As players using the kit the least will appear in the ranking.

Chuy - this probably requires too much work to be of any use anyway.

if you put the mouse over your accuracy percentage on stats page it tells you how many shots and how many of them hit the target.

and accuracy is just that. it doesn't matter how many people you killed as long as you hit them.

Granted, but the accuracy is a bit of a vague front of a stat. It's only when you roll your mouse over the stat and get the full info that things make sense.

As in your example, the guy has an accuracy of 72.22%, but when you look closer, he's taken 18 shots, and has 13 hits. Now when you look a bit to the left and find that he has been playing sniper for well over an hour and in that time has only taken 18 shots.... WTF! Why bother.

All of the accuracy stats are the same, if you spawn as a medic, take 1 shot, hit (regardless of kill) and then never play medic again your accuracy is gonna be 1, but it doesn't tell the whole picture.

It's a game, just enjoy it.

As a wise man once said, "Statistics are like a lamp post to a drunken man, more for leaning on than illumination"

Have a nice day, and drive safely kids

Its the same with any stat though. If in your first game, the round starts, you throw a grenade and kill 4 people all in the same minute then leave your spm will be 8 and your kdr will be .... infinite(?). I realise this is a stupid example but still. Its the same way that most of the people at the top of the spm and kdr charts are people with low scores who play a specific way to get to the top (jets etc).

What could more informative is the 'shots per kill' for the sniper rifle, and the 'hits per kill'.  This information is shown on the bf2player stats by hovering over the weapon's magifying glass.

If they get this information, then so must BF2s.  Just an idea...

I found this bit more informative than the accuracy bit.

As an aside - on the bf2player stats it shows the ranking per weapon - is this their ranking or as per the feed?

First off, thanks for the Sniper Accuracy section.  Can't wait to see what other ranks you have in the works.

But the original poster has a point.  Add some kind of threshold to these ranks.  What's the point of showing a Win/Loss ratio when someone has only played 10 rounds?

Please consider adding some kind of threshold for Sniper Accuracy to something like, total number of kills > 1,000 THEN it adds you to the list?

What do you think?

There is a threshold -- 1 hour with the rifle. It's not good enough though. I just threw it up there because I wanted to see this thread where it got debunked to figure out the best way to work said threshold.

I think I'll change the ranking to kills/shot and change thre reqs to > 100 kills.

How's that sound?

How about 1,000 kills?  Or 10-15 hours with the sniper weapon?

the rankings should include as many people as possible. Differently put, everbody who can access his stats on this site shouls also be able to view selected accuracy rankings.

1000 kills isn't that much Chuy.  A lot of the snipers here have easily over 5000 kills. I alone have 8,000 +

Can you show the real snipers not the two minute noodlers please ?

Grammar fix
