Ok, this only works for CTD when you press the join button or press escape for joining a game

Problem: You click join or you press escape to join a map and the game crashes to desktop. If this happens to you every 3 out of 4 times, I have the temporary solution. No need to throw your computer out the window anymore!

solution:
1. Click the desired server
2. wait for everything to load and data to be verified.
3. You see the join button, DON'T PRESS IT YET

now here comes the trick:
4. Click the auto-ready button! If you hear a sound (like a little click or something), It is safe to join and the game will not crash.
If you don't hear anything, wait a second and click again. repeat this for every second till you hear it. Then press the join button and be happy, no CTD and go kick some ass.

This works, I haven't had a crash in 1.5 weeks anymore! (instead of 5/6 join-crashes after patch 1.3)

Usually it takes up to 10-15 seconds before you hear some click (had 30 seconds once), but I tell you, I prefer to click 15 seconds on some idiot button and be able to join, than guessing it will not crash and watch the screen go black and see your desktop again.

And the good thing: IT WILL MAKE SOUND after a while! So you will be able to join every server from now on!

Funny how this little useless button became so important to me!

I know this is not the best way, and it's only a temporary solution (at least that's what I hope) but at least now some of you can play again without trying to join for 45 minutes.
And besides, all informatici use little tricks like this to solve all problems *G*

Optimalisation: you only have to press the box once, and wait for the sound to arrive, then it's safe to join, so no need to click it every second.
I got some positive reactions on this already and I helped a few, so I'm a happy man. This is what I wrote it for!

Well now I am on it anyway, this thread solved my own: connection lost problems.

Now if only the punkbuster problems and server crashes could be solved, this game would run smooth (again)

I hope this helped! If you have questions or remarks, shoot them!

P.S. I heard people got a crash when they click the auto-ready button immediatly after it appears, wait one second and then press it once and wait for the click-sound. Then you can safely join. Good luck!

Thanks imdead! Good to see confirmation!

Eboreus: really? That sucks! It worked for me and for my friend. I would say, don't press it too fast and only press the box, not the letters (as he joins the game himself then? Don't know how that is possible actually). As soon as you hear a sound, you can safely join! Usually I press once more to be sure the sound is there. Try it once more, you have nothing to lose

hehe I know I'm glad for every solution

however I really only clicked the box and waited for the sound.. but it's not that bad - for me the 10 - 15 sec wait method works quite well and my crashing got reduced quite a bit

so as long as everyone finds a solution I guess it's okay (that doesnt mean that DICE should slow down with fixing this tho )

mm found an optimalisation today. Just press autoready button once and wait for the sound to arrive, then you can play. Keeps you from clicking much and joining server anyway with crash as result. Need to test this a bit more though.

I added the optimalisation to the intro post: you only need to press the auto ready box once and when you hear a sound, click the join server

I also got some positive reply's, one saying: thank you, you solved my crash problems: You're welcome mate, this is why I did this!

Ahhh guys, this only works in most cases

Sometimes Ill load a server, see it varify the data, blah blah, and then without clicking or touching anything CTD

I dont care though, just load BF2 up again, verbally abuse my mates on TS [They love it, Ill have to check if they recorded it]

O_o all i do is wait about 10 seconds and click join game, no need for join when ready.. of course this may be diffrent for others, i have found that the join game when ready is starting to work recently so i just wait for it to auto join, prob solved..

I uninstalled BF (and SF) and then downloaded the FULL patch 1.3.
(guess whats coming up next)
Reinstalled life... I mean BF and ran the full patch.

I have had one CTD since but did all of the above on thursday night and it's now end of the weekend. bit of a long winded solution I know but well worth a try.

(probably good to do thsi anyway to help stabalise the game)

The autojoin button, good idea. +1

Well I study informatica (= computer science) so i'm also a programmer. If something doesn't work the normal way we always search for little strange solutions to fix the problems Ofcourse I still hope the next patch will fix everything, cause this is indeed not the best solution but hey it works for me (and most users).

Glad I could help you!
