There's a good documentary I've seen a few times (Children of the Closed State I believe). It was a bit eery watching it while I was in South Korea. It mainly focuses on the orphans but goes into accounts of cannabalism and secret camps. Reminded me of The Killing Fields.

North Korea has a professional army, it's not like dealing with some rowdy insurgency with rpgs, this is the real deal with big guns and artillery, so before you invade a country like that, things have to be planned.
Too bad they're too broke to even train their military in modern combat. Iraq had better equipment during the Gulf War. NK's spec ops and chemical weapons are the only real worry.

Same thing was said about the N.Koreans in the Korean war, however with the help of the chinese they managed to hold onto the North and the rest as you say is history.

Read up on "pork chop hill" to understand why they were able to repel the might of the Nato forces.

During the Korean War the North actually had state of the art technology, Soviet pilots, and strong Chinese support. The US was ill-equiped and coming off the WW2 invincibility feeling. You cannot compare their power 50 years ago to now.

Its not bad for them, they know nothing else, they are told that they are the wealthiest country and are lucky to have body parts.

Who knows maybe earth is a country like NK and our leaders are playing the same game on us.

This nievity keeps them happy and as if not more satisfied than any other person, we are all living the same life in a different server.
