I think that squad leaders should be able to call close air support like they can call for an artillery strike.  Example squad leader spots large concentration of enemy troops, presses T aims and calls for air strike. The request is sent to the pilots of friendly aircraft which they see in the form of an order which they can accept or reject. If they accept it shows up on their screen (in the same way in which a move or attack order does with the symbol and the smoke), this remains until the pilot accepts new orders or until the person who called in the air strike cancels it. This would be a really useful addition both for ground pounders and pilots, pilots no longer have to fly around aimlessly looking for targets and infantry can get air support on important targets which they perhaps wouldn't normally get, particularly if it is a mass of infantry with no vehicles (so no visible targets for aircraft).
I know this has probably been mentioned before but I thought I would just add my take on it, and this would be and even better improvement since the arrival of Armoured Fury, just imagine being able to call for air support and the A-10 comes over ripping the enemy squad that was blocking your assault on a flag to pieces with its cannon.
So what do guys think...???

I made a post about that a few days ago -> http://forums.bf2s.com/viewtopic.php?id=29619

Your Idea is slightly different then mine, but overall I still think that a requesting air support  command would be a great addition to BF2.

But this way it makes air support available to all squads on your team, who may not be on TS, and furthermore it would give the pilot a more exact location of where he is needed.

While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

Yeah why not, on both counts it might help to reduce the amount of people moaning about how pilots don't do enough to help their team, this would really help to improve teamwork and to make the jets and heli's even more important assets to the TEAM rather than just a point farming machine for the one or two people who are using them.

I think thats a fantastic idea. I'm always trying to track down when people spot vehicles but if they need general air support in a certain area, they should be able to call for it.

I agree, this needs to be in the game.  But would anybody on the ground actually use it?  When was the last time you heard "I need artillery over here sir!"?

There are so many radio calls that should be in the game.

"Hostile explosives spotted"
"Need tank support"

etc.

Only because half the time when you do try to use it, it ain't available because the commander is just using it willy-nilly, and if there is armour nearby arty is virtually no use anyway, and with this if the pilot excepts the target he will hopefully carry out the attack asap.

Air support is a FANTASTIC idea! Also I think that when you say "Hey! I need a ride!" a flashing icon should come up above your head so people know its's you. This worked great in Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising. When you said "I need a ride" you got a blackhawk swooping down to take you into action! That worked but the rest of the game was crap.

I had Joint Ops and imho I thought it was rather good the sniping in particular was far more realistic and enjoyable than in BF2. And tbh I think there are a lot of features in that game that if they had been included in BF2 would make the game a lot better.
And when people ask for a ride, when you hear simply look for the guy whose tag is flashing on screen and in the mini-map.

This is an excellent idea, +1 for it. Whenever im squad leader, or even squad member, im always asking for UAV, veh drops and supplies (especially when im in AA). Never really call for Arty though, since the commander should really know where to put it when he uses the Scan.
Being able to call for air support would benefit squads so much, and may help to achieve that little bit more teamwork between ground and air units. Submit it to EA. If you do, and it gets accepted, then you'll get +1 every day for the next year

That is a good idea. Often I find myself flying around looking for any worthwhile targets. On a couple occasions when I make my own squad and talk directly with the commander he directs me upon targets according to his scans.

Then again this might be misused by some noobs who are gonna start pissing their pants at the sight of a car when there are much juicer targets around the area which should be attacked by the air.

Really good idea BTW. I think it should also include attack choppers as well.

There are lines in the localization files that go along these lines so I'm guessing they had it implimented at one point just didn't include it

Yeah wasn't there supposed to be some sort of laser designator?
I read on another post about the inclusion of self-propelled guns, and someone suggested on there that snipers could be used to designate targets (credit to whoever said it) and maybe they could be ones who could call for air support rather than squad leaders, again this would increase teamwork, and perhaps this would help stop the moaning by people who say that snipers are useless and do nothing to help the team (not true).

As Squad leader you can simply ask the commander to issue an attack order to your Jet Squad....
