So lately ive had alot of disconnects in BF2, i think its my router, Ive tryed reseting it, ive tryed unpluging it, ive tryed almost everything, my router and modem are brand new so i dont think its that. I also get random disconnects on MSN and Xfire
It may be an issue with a cable. A cable may be bent or broken causing bad connection.
Is your network card up to scratch?
If it is wireless, how good is the signal? If it is bad then yes, you are going to get random disconnections
Alternatively it may be your ISP. Their servers may be crap or overloaded

Okay its wireless, and the big problem, ITS BEHIND A FISH TANK, which says its a no-no, but ive never had problems before, and the tank has been there for almost 2 years. the signal is 100% its not very far like 10-15 feet away. the isp is pretty large one but i dont think thats a problem. Maybe new drivers on my net card. Ill check the cables. also
it's the 1.3 patch.
everyone gets kicked from the servers i play in atleast once a day if not more.

Its not the fish...
True, however if he also loses connection to xfire and MSN then this is not 'just another 1.3 problem'DSRTurtle wrote:

i thought it was 1.3 until MSN disconnects, i just updated the firmware on the router, testing now
I know yahoo messenger experiences random disconnects at times. I turned off xfire when i play bf2 as it seemed to cause me to lag. I don't know about MSN messenger.liquidat0r wrote:

One thing you could try is to update the firmware of your router. I noticed a big improvement in mine after i did last year. You will need to check the website of the manufacture and make sure you choose not only the right model, but the right version of that model as well. Linksys has 3 or 4 versions of one model of there wireless g routers.
i just updated mine, it kinda fixed it, it didnt immeditaly disconnect but its not fixedDSRTurtle wrote:

okay i think its BF2 now, i have fixed the MSN disconnects and Xfire, now i can barely play for 20 mins without a disconnect
In that case you have a serious case of 1.3 syndromeCohammer wrote:

Try not having xfire on... It takes alot of your bandwidth away and I dont know how much you have. In the little guide that came with your game when you first bought it, it tells you the ports on your router that you need to have open. If you have a feeling your router is the culprit, I would check to see that you first had the proper ports. Once thats ruled out you can move on to other possible areas that can cause probs. Of course it could all be just patch related... who the fook knows ...
edit: the quickest way to rule out your router is just to bypass it for the time being and wire right into your modem and see what playing is like with that.....

Honestly, it could be numerous things especially if you are running a wireless router. However, I had disconnection problems myself due to my router when i had my computer set in the DMZ. This would frequently disconnect me fom the internet. I dont know why this happens, but it did and so I can only pass along this info in hopes that it will help.

and another thing i dont have the manual so i dont know what ports to open
I would then support the 'wire right into your modem' step next. Because if your other apps are disconnecting too, then opening ports just for BF2 isn't going to help them.Cohammer wrote:

the DMZ thing worked, i played for like 1hr and it didnt disconnect, and non yet
i know that my disconnects are 1.3 related, because i have no disconnect issues in other games even with xfire running.
XFire does take a lot of bandwidth which is why i don't run it when playing BF2

you know BF2 only uses like 20 kbs of internet usage, and xfire is like 2-3 kbs, so if u cant handle that you need a new connection
