It's a bit of a 'shit sandwich' alright. Sorry to harp on about QuestionMark's comments but I really must protest at his generalisation that Palestinian Arabs blow themselves up because of religious zeal. One particular example from a few years ago, I can't remember the exact details, was of a well-to-do Palestinian academic who went out into Jerusalem dressed as an orthodox Jew and blew himself up on a bus. The reason: the IDF had killed his teenage daughter a few days earlier. I think vengeance is a major part of suicide bombing. All of the Palestinians I met in Palestine were bright, intelligent, friendly people who were surprisingly up-to-date with world current affairs. I think this '99 virgins' thing or whatever it is is an image propagated by the Israeli media (and western media) to deflect attention from the real reasons these people do what they do and to cast aspersion on them (to make them appear to be unthinking barbarians). That's not to say that a minority may carry out these attacks for purely religious reasons.

Oh, I think it might be true of the global Islamic terrorists. Question's issue is seperating Al Qaeda from PLO and the like, as they are very different in aim and membership.
1. Words mean things.QuestionMark wrote:

2. I am not a mind-reader.
I have to admit, when I first drew attention to your urban-village mistake, I didn't think you would keep it going the way you did but again, let's move on.
The point is, when your argument rests on the essential "otherness" of the Palestinians, you sound like Hamas with the proper nouns reversed.
"Ah, but you see, the ... are not like us. They will not see reason as you and I decent human beings can. They continue to attack us unprovoked and so we have no choice but to refuse to negotiate."
You do see that, don't you?

Would you ever consider blowing yourself up on a bus of full of, oh let's say Eskimos, just because they, god forbid, killed one of your relatives? What, no? I guess it is religious zeal after all. No person in his right mind would ever go do such a thing unless their religion encouraged it. Also note that suicide bombings is almost exclusive to Muslims, which proves religion is indeed a factor.CameronPoe wrote:

I am an atheist. If there was no means of getting justice through the law, I would take revenge myself. The only difference would be that I would try to preserve my own life while taking the perpetrators. In grief people often take their own lives - if they could avenge a death at the same time then that is convenient way to go about it.QuestionMark wrote:

1) Didn't grow up in a refugee camp
2) Doesn't see helicopters fly around shooting up his buddies on a daily basis
3) Is generally happy
4) Has a reasonable cash-flow, I'm guessing
5) Has ways to seek help, and have a reasonable chance of success, other than killing people
You assume here that all terrorists are in their right mind.QuestionMark wrote:

Suicide bombings are also almost exclusive to people of Middle Eastern descent. And people of non-white skin, so does that mean that white people are incapable of suicide bombing? No. It means that currently they do not often do so. But it could be that all white people happen to not know how to use explosives, and therefore can't be suicide bombers. Race, religion, culture, geographic location, social situation, and wealth are all related. I think you'll find that, statistically, a higher percentage of people who are able to get basic needs are atheist than poor people are atheist.QuestionMark wrote:

Menachim Begin I assume.
I notice QuestionMark continues to ignore my posts...............
I think he might well be done here altogether. To be fair, he was having to keep up with, like, four of us at a time. Which raises an interesting question... why aren't there more people in here who will defend Israel to the hilt?
Even more amazing was that, AFAIK, nobody got called anti-semitic. I actually kinda admired that about him (QM).

Probably only because he didn't know the word, IMHO. But yes, we were lucky that nobody jumped in and screamed it. It seems that many Zionists view any anti-Israeli as anti-Semitic. Many Jews who speak out against Israel and it's policies are branded anti-Semitic.

The only reason I joined the forum is because I couldn't stand by and do nothing while Israel is being demonized by some people who only see one side of the coin. Although I am only one, I hope I helped demystify some of the more common misconceptions. Always remember to try and see the whole picture like I always try to do. It's been nice debating with you.spastic bullet wrote:

Shalom, QM. Here's to the total failure of all attempts to demonize and dehumanize one's enemies. Yes, even yours.

1) You were proved wrong at every turn
2) You clearly couldn't see the Palestinian side of things
3) What common misconceptions? The ones who are the greater victims of common misconception are, in fact, the Palestinians.
Israel stands for nothing but murder and injustice, and I spit on it, it's name, and those who defend it.QuestionMark wrote:

I appreciate you not degenerating into name calling like so many do on this forum and engaging in a reasonable debate. It was refreshing. However,QuestionMark wrote:

I meant that IMHO he didn't know the word anti-Semitic (I know, technically not a word per se)
A contraction is "will not" turned into "won't".Horseman 77 wrote:

IMHO is an acronym for "in my humble opinion" (although...most people would like it to mean "honest" instead of "humble").
Bubbalo was referencing the anti-Semitic term that they were saying Zionists/pro-Israelis sling at anti-Zionists/anti-Israelis.
(P.S. Technically, anti-Semitic is a word. )
