When you boot and get that screen, do CTRL+ALT+DEL to get task manager and select the Applications tab, and then hit the new taskbutton and type explorer.xe, that will get your desktop back. Then I suggest rebooting and if it does the same again, either use system restore or boot from the OS disk and do a repair install, that should solve your problems.

Good point.  If you have Anti-Virus and Spyware software than run it when you can.  If you don't than you should get it as soon as you can.  I was suprised when i bought my Spyware software.  It cleaned out quite a few on my computer and it ran better after that.  I hope you computer works soon.

Make sure it's explorer.exe, make sure it's not .xe

If that doesn't work, I'd suggest a reformat

Not really, theres a choice of NTFS of FAT and if you need Raid configuration...

If your not sure what you are doing get some help from a 'real' person rather than off of forums. Or find a good tut on the interweb

I ment low lever and normal format actually... But anyways, Gateways got a recovery disk, but you said it gave an error? Were you trying to roll back to an earlier good version, or reinstall?
