ok its that time of year again. my current specs are:

P4 2.66ghz 533mhz FSB 512k Cache
1.5gb DDR 400
80 GB WD Raptor 10kRPM
DFI 661fx Rev.A MOBO
Creative Audigy 2 Value w/Inspire T5400 Speakers 5.1
400w PSU
ATI 9600pro AGP8x 256mb OC'D to 465mhz Core, 480mhz RAM [Yea thats the max]

well so basically its time to get a new comp. basically i need a card to last me a while and BF2142. my new comp specs will be:

AMD Athlon 64 3200+
1.5 GB DDR 400
80 GB WD Raptor 10kRPM
Biostar TFORCE6100-939
Creative Audigy 2 Value w/Inspire T5400 Speakers 5.1
400w PSU
Vid Card?

im thinking a 7600gt 256mb KO edition (link below). ive looked at benches and it seemes better than the x850xt with 16pipes, it beats the x1800gto, and the x800gto.....so forget them. im open to all alternatives in the 100-220$ price range... any advice. im really trying to squeeze the remaining overclock out of my current card...so pleeez advice thanks

heres the card im lookin at: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6814130017

thanks a bunch

get one with 512mb Ram on it if you can.

it might kick you up to $250 at the most, but it will last you longer.

Dont buy anything till Vista and Direct X 10 comes out. If you buy something top of the line right now it will be obsolete the moment DX10 comes out.

nvidia 7900gt with 512mb ram
i got a "sparkle calibre" a few weeks ago and it runs fine with all details, lights, shadows etc.

the gt is less expensive as the gtx
i think its the best choice now
if you don't want to wait

No question, especially with the new age physx cards from Ageia coming out to support current graphic cards... damn, I'm behind again. I would try to stick with Nvidia though, pci xpress 7k series, 256mg or better. Just a thought. Otherwise wait for the new dynamic software DirectX v.10.

For now there is no reason to worry over the entire physics processor as well as future games.  The video card mentioned in the O.P. is fine and if having 512MB of onboard memory is possible with minimal financial impact, I say go for it.  I do would like to suggest trying for 2GB of RAM.  While 1.5GB is good enough, the more you have, the better the chances you'll be able to play 2142 w/o any performance impact due to running out of memory.

meh, the 7600gt 256 is the best bang for the buck right now...a friend has 2 in sli and loves them and its cheaper than a 512 card (7900gtx), its worth it, just as i said in many previous posts: WAIT FOR CONROE!, and if you dont want the latest and greatest, price drops are on the way in the next month or so, so be a little patient, buy an sli mobo for the mone u save and by then youll have enough for 2 7600s.

i have a 7600GS (backing up the budget end of the 7 serires) and it works just fine for me. all high, 4x AA at 1024 resolution and i get 50 average, high 30's for low, and 70-80's high. its a rock solid card thats great for overclocking to GT standards.

There are cards that 512MB onboard video memory but watch for the bit type. Get the 256-bit, those are more expensive but are worth it. If you buy a 512MB card and it sayd 128 bit then you just wasted your money.
