Two additional charges of reckless driving and failure to exhibit a driving permit will be dismissed under the plea agreement.

The officer listed alcohol influence as a contributing factor in the crash and noted that Kennedy was "ability impaired," with red, watery eyes, slurred speech and unsteady balance, according to the accident report.

Police did not conduct field sobriety tests on Kennedy. A police union official has said the officers involved in the accident were instructed by a superior to take the congressman home. Kennedy has denied asking for special treatment.

Police had observed Kennedy's car, with no headlights on, swerve into the wrong lane and strike a curb. Kennedy nearly hit a police car, the report said, and did not respond to the officer's efforts to pull him over. He continued at a slower speed before hitting a security barrier head-on.

Kennedy told the police officer he was "headed to the Capitol to make a vote,"

Kennedy said he returned home from work and took a sleeping pill, Ambien, and Phenergan, a prescription anti-nauseau drug that can cause drowsiness. He said he did not consume alcohol.

Do you feel that maybe he lied to the police about what he took???  Do you feel he lied to the police about going to vote???  Do you feel someone might have called the police on his behalf to do them a "favor"???  Are the Kennedys above the law???

I guess this is better that drowning a hooker, bludgeoning the neighbor girl with a golf club, or brutally raping and beating a girl at you uncles party.

I doubt he was a night

Theoretically, no one is, however in practise, famous people always get away free. Look at Michael Jackson.

If it was a legal prescription he should have fought it. It sounds politacally motivated.

Driving under the influence of prescription medications that impair your abilities is still illegal.

Rush Limbaugh was addicted to a legal prescription. Politically motivated?

Agreed.  Many years ago I dated a girl that had been fighting cancer since her early teens.  Because of the prescriptions she was required to take, and the known impairment that may be caused by these drugs, the state of Utah would not even issue her a license.

Someone should explain to Horsey that the Rep. in front of this guys name doesn't mean he's a Republican so therefore there is no reason for him to defend his totally inexcusable behaviour.

I thought all the Kennedy's died?  You know, there was the one that got shot, a few that died in a plane crash, and various other things that wiped out the whole family?

Unfortunately, that band of miscreants is still spawning, to no one's (not even their own...) pleasure. Whatever good Jack and Bobby may have done during their time in office, what came later was nothing about which to be proud. Teddy is a horrible joke played upon the people of Mass AND the country...JFK Jr. accomplished little outside of being photographed plenty...I could go on, but there are plenty of other offenses (rape anyone?) beyond Teddy's little driving problem in the 60s and this most recent DUI...

What's funny is that we tend to forgive the Kennedy's their flaws because Jack and Bobby seemed mostly like upright guys (all the extra-marital stuff and drugs aside, of course)...how is the deplorable behavior of the Kennedys any different, really, than the Bush clan? Heck, we all know about W's drug problem, but most don't really give him a pass...oh, and if you think it was war-mongering...take a look at how we got deeply involved in Vietnam before you respond accordingly...it wasn't LBJ or Nixon who really started the escalation...

I wonder how long we put up with the Kennedys, the Bushs, the Daleys, and many other modern-day aristocrats that have been with us for so long...

There's no excuse for DUI - he has to face to full brunt of the law. I don't know what that is like in the US but here in Ireland it's very tough and it is about as socially acceptable as hacking up grannies with axes in broad daylight. I know it's more common in the US and less frowned upon but he should be made an example of, given his status.

I was under the impression his med's  kicked in a little harder than he expected/thought. Change in diet, Tired etc. Was he using them for recreation ? We have people who have done far worse in office. It still sounds like a witch hunt. I know very little about the guy but it dosen't seem to rate all the attention it has been getting. A lot of people just hate the Kennedy's.
