Yeah true.  And in Australia the original game was $100 and the expansion will be about $40 or $50.  and our exchange rate isn't that bad.  So I think we drew the short straw.....

But I will still buy it because its worth the fun.  I have already calculated that the game is costing me less than $1/hr to play  I think thats worth it.....
I just did that calculation based on my hours played, it only costs me 14.5 cents an hour to play this game.  And the good thing is, the longer I play, the more that per hour rate wll drop.   Not a bad deal.  Much cheaper than a night of drinking or a visit to the strip club. (Don't ask)

I'm going to ad this stat under "Misc Stats" section of a player's page. Ok stop laughing now and breathe -- I'm serous: I think it's a very important stat to impress upon people how much value they actually derive from the game purchase.

Marketing wise, EA is godlike. In my humble opinion, they seem to be the gaming powerhouse right now. They publish a lot of kick ass games...yes there are a few that shall go unmentioned *Harry potter series* but otherwise they have a solid lineup. Will the BF2 expansion sell? Oh hell yes. Will it be worth it? meh, that's for the individual to decide. Out of curiosity, did anyone here play Mechwarrior 4? Mercenaries and the Clan/Inner Sphere mech expansion packs? Thats something I think EA/Dice should do. something that fully integrates into the existing game. who needs/cares about 6 new factions? It's not like they make much of a difference anyway. The concept of BF2 is mass scale warfare *Planetside was a GREAT game too...until they made it a CTF thing...then it got retarded*. If they want to do a Special Ops expansion, I say use the same engine, but make it akin to the Rainbow Six feel...minus the planning part for the action gamers. There are great possibilities for this game engine.

Ok, I'll go sit quietly in the corner now.

P.S. Chuy, when you do add that to the stats, please record that I bought the game for $35.
I <3 when Fry's has sales.

I will buy the expantion, but I agree that EA really should get BF2 up and running correctly before worrying about selling expantion packs.

Well, for starters, they were true expansions, not all-new, completely separate games...

So what you're telling us is that you have a weak mind?

I'll probably buy the expansion myself, I've had a lot of great fun with this game, and see some cool toys in the expansion.  For the most part, the game isn't THAT buggy.  Sure... there are some things wrong, but it's not like it's Interplay's "Star Trek: New Worlds" (BTW, I won't buy Interplay games anymore because of that title, at least if I happen to catch the publisher name first).

But...   I use Firefox, not IE, I use Open Office, not MS Office/Works, and I'm a Libertarian (political party, LP.org, no discussion in this thread please).  If you'd think for yourself, you'd not make arguments like "isn't the propoganda a gun to my head?"

As for the money thing...   Um... don't ALL new release PC and Console games cost $50 USD?  Don't most successful games either have expansions ($30 or so USD) and/or sequels and new versions (another $50 USD each)?   Have you ever played a MMORPG?  $50 to start, often beta quality for months (and/or longer), for which you pay $10-$15/month subscription (you do get 1 month free with the $50 game), and most of whom also put out expansions (another $30), and some of whom put out (or have talked about putting out) mini-expansions (Funcom, who runs AO got a new CEO who's grand idea was for these mini-expansions, at about $15 a pop or so, I think they were to be called "Booster Boxes"... this was about the time I quit, for unrelated reasons).  Soooo...  BF2, you buy the box, and maybe an expansion in a year ($80), vs an MMO where you buy the box, pay subscriptions ($230 the first year), and maybe even an expansion that first year ($260 total now).  And of course... all of this is assuming you only play one account.

Edit: Just a note, Eve Online, run by CCP in Iceland shoots for an Expansion per year... but they don't charge extra for their expansions, $15/mo.  Of course...  they've created their own niche market, and it's unlikely they could really get a boxed expansion distributed...   which for an MMO is half the purpose of an expansion... to get the boxes on the shelves, and up the subscriber roles.

Lazarus Tag'lim, I don't think the issue is that the game costs $50 - they all pretty much do. I don't think the issue is charging for an expansion, again - they all do. The bitch is that they are taking the time to develop and sell the expansion pack when in fact the original game that we all have already paid for isn't even running properly yet. They need to get their priorities straight. Fix BF2, then move on to the expansion.

no i do not have a weak mind, like i said its propaganda ,  how else would i have know bf2 existed? The posters on the video game shop, the guy telling me there was wicked arty strikes. and I chose to buy it, its not being weak minded, but with the propaganda that ea put out i was able to determine that was the right choice by my self,

sorry if you took it the wrong way, but next time you try to bag on someone , think before you write!!

ok, guys.. here's a question for you:
How many hours have you played BF2? I mean the time recorded on ranked servers? Didn't you play even more time than that on unranked servers? OK, you've paid 50$, right? In Germany I payed 50 €... convert that to US$, and it's 60US$!!!!

I played more than 100 hours so far. Of course I was pissed at the "unofficial but still ongoing beta-phase" like almost everyone else, but heck if I would have gone out dining I wouldn't last 10 hours with 50 €!!!

100 hours of movie watching? Whohooo... NO WAY!

Look at it this way... your 50 US$ got you quite some entertainment time spent. I'm looking forward to the SF expansion. I will still complain about Bugs... I could bitch about stupid team mates or other things.... I might do that some day in the future, but for right now, I'm quite satisfied. I like BF2!

Heck I'd love to get a refund on the SF expansion because I'm registered.... YEAH!

Cheers,

Sysfried

A-mothergrabbin'-men, man.

Bugs and all, BF2 is the best $50 I've spent on a game since Halo..sheeit, it's the best $50 I've spent in a looooooong time on ANYTHING.  I'll buy that damn new game, too...I just won't call it an expansion pack.  $30 for a whole new game is a steal, after all.

Whem ever have you seen a game come out without bugs i mean look at the scale of bf2 look at the different combinations of PC's out there its impossible to get it 100% right (get more ram seriously it solves alot of problems).

As for the expansion i agree they shouldnt have posted ingame for everyone to see should be a choice and not forced but hell im gonna get it i love the bf series i think there great.

I also agree that stat padders should have there accounts wiped (like that guy with 4000 top score on karkland and mastuur blatant stat padding) but just remeber just because someone is better than you dont mean they stat pad so probably better not to accuse people.

Just because r00fus likes vehicles dont make him a stat padder

I dont think trying to get all your badges is stat padding either thats part of the game stat padding is where people get stats without actually playing the game properly and having cooperation between both sides workin just for points heal death ammo heal death ammo blah blah blah some people suck
