i dont know like a hotdog or something...
BBQ is the most national food that I can think of for the US, as far as I know it was us (for the black people out there it was the slaves...happy?) that came up witht the idea because they were given tough meats and BBQ was the best way to make them tender and yummy. I wouldn't call a Hamburger our national food simply because all countries have them. Not all countries have Baby back ribs (like we make em).....
Its not really a national food but more like a national cooking style....food however: penut butter. The rest of the world as far as i know just doesn't have/get it

I wouldn't say its a dish more like a food.....I dont think the US has a national dish....we have everything
New Zealand:
Mostly the same as Britain and Australia. ie.
Fish'n'chips, meat pies (BP doesn't stand for British Petroleum, it stands for Better Pies ), roasts; chicken, beef and lamb are popular along with normal roast veges, but also a lot of Kumara (sweet potato)
And anything thats cooked on a barbequeue of course, especially with a few beers

I've always thought of hotdogs (the bun variety) and pumpkin pie as American dishes...only had pumpkin pie a few months ago, bloody nice stuff!Pernicious544 wrote:

Wiener Schnitzel or Palatschinken
Yeah, hamburgers are from Germany, but they wouldn't be nearly as popular without the American style of making it.

America's contribution to the world of food is definatly the fast food chain and some kick ass Hamburger Helper. Man, that shit's a bachelors meal kit.
Colcannon, Irish stew, barnbrack.
