we should try to get back on topic if we can...
Although, I believe, we have had the discussion ( or parts of it ) before and it has never lead us anywhere.
Personally, I think that the US has a unusually high murder / violent crime rate compared to other western nations, even if you take into consideration that the US is the largest by land mass and population.
The reasons for that are still open for discussion...
I believe it has something to do with the way americans look at violence and their general attitude towards it.
Violence seems to be considered a valuable means for solving conflicts in general, on all levels of society.
Is America in general a violent society ? It certainly seems to be embedded deeply into their culture.
Generalizations are problematic, I know. Everyone is different.
Still, I wonder how americans explain this phenomenon. Wouldn't you agree that american society is more violent than - for example - the swiss or danish society ?

Took the words right out of my mouth. Melbourne has the world's second biggest Greek population, a huge number of Jews who arrived after WWII, Sydney and Melbourne both have significant Muslim populations, although Melbourne's is less than Sydney's, Melbourne has huge numbers of Chinese (to the point where there are Chinese driving schools). The list goes on.[RTC]invaderzim69 wrote:

Well, diverse... not diverse... who cares?
The issue at hand is the violence.
I think we (U.S.) are more concerned with being PC than anything. Of all the murders alone, shows how weak we are.
The media and certain liberal thinking individuals are quick to jump down the military's throats when they kill someone say in Iraq. "It is so wrong to torture or kill a POW. We need to protect their rights."
It's war... they are not American.... they get no rights. They don't get due process. That is for U.S. citizens.
Why don't they use that energy in feeling for the victims of murder and rape in the U.S.?
We need REAL consequences for that kind of behavior.
Until we get a backbone and forget the stupid PC thing the number of murders and rapes will always be high.
You can go to prison longer for killing a puppy than killing a person. (exaggeration)

The reason these people do that is because there's no reason to even be there. You know, there's some people in Nepal who want democracy. Why aren't we helping them?spacebandit72 wrote:

An example of why I have zero respect for you. You can be thrown out into the open, proven wrong, and yet still try to somehow convince people that you have dignity.Bubbalo wrote:

Come back with any BS statement you want. I guarantee it won't be anything that proves me wrong.
Two factors I blame for this:
1) The large number of severaly disenfranchised individuals the US brand of capitalism generates. Such a gulf between rich and poor is bound to create problems.
2) The constitutional right to bear arms. That is THE biggest flaw with the US consitution.

Where did you prove that America is the most diverse country?Ajax_the_Great1 wrote:

What's the point in this argument. Of course USA is the most diverse nation on earth. The nation is a nation of immigrants. And their borders are fairly porous too which help keep that diversity thriving.Cougar wrote:
