Wrong. I've used and supported BOTH for years. In a business environment. For thousands of users. Everything an end user needs to do their job, can more easily be done and trained on Microsoft products. Why do you guys think Mac's are so much better if the average worker can't understand how to use it therefore costing countless dollars to the business owner for an unproductive employee? As far as my line of work is concerned, you can waste hundreds of hours trying to train employees on new systems and it always seems to be smarter for your business to run Windows, in a Windows environment. Samba fucks up the roaming profiles...while it "EMULATES WINDOWS". Of course it aint gonna work right. It aint Windows.I could go on...It's like a big game to see if a program will work if you run this as that, and so on. The usability and functionality of Windows and other Office products are unmatched in a business environment. I have plenty of rebellion in me, which is why I assume people like to use something other than "The Big Evil Giant Bill Gates' products" but when it's all said and done, Microsoft FTW. All roads lead back to Windows. Why waste time on the mac?

If you were a software manufacturer, would your target market be the 10% of ub3rl33t consumers or the 90% of average Joe's and why? How would you market it? To be different/cool?
If you bought a rig strictly for gaming what would it be and why? Would you just be emulating Windows so you could play your game? Why is this an advantage to running Windows natively?

You can now run windows natively on intel based macs. I don't buy gaming rigs, I build them. Check the one in my sig. I see what you are saying, but Macs are extremely user friendly if you give them a chance.
I wish I was teh ub3rL33t. But that title goes to Linus (Torvalds)...he's my homeboy.King_County_Downy wrote:

I agree with you completely. I myself have no problems. I'm just saying that as far a business is concerned and gaming alike, Mac's are just fakin the funk.claydawg wrote:

let me try
1. Macs with the same hardware config as an Dell or similar are far more expensive (and this is the main problem) and so is most of the software
2. The compatability with the rest of the world (windows has a market share of ~95% - live with it) is just not like it is with windows. Also there is much more software for windows.
3. The whole argument that a mac is more stable is deceptive. Windows with microsoft drivers is rock solid. The moment you intall drivers from a 3ed parties for weird hardware, things start to get problematic. Same thing goes for software. Also i never had problems with virues & co. ever since i stopped downloading software from Kaazaa (hey - that was really my fault).
4. Design -- well it is completely up to the builder how styleish they make their pcs. i find my pc much better than a mac -- but this is completely up to each person
Now i leave the special uses of linux out of this

my sister has a macbook pro, its pretty nice. Anyways what kind of ram would work with the Macbook? And is it easy to fix? Also isnt your warranty voided if you open it?
Macbooks use DDR2 at PC2 5300 speed. You can get 2x1gb sticks for $160 @ newegg. Check the link in the opening post of this thread. It isn't supposed to void the warranty, many people do this upgrade. Read the reviews on the newegg link and you'll see this. As far as fixing, usually the only problems you will have with a mac is hardware related and will be covered under the warranty. BE SURE TO GET THE EXTENDED APPLECARE PROTECTION PLAN! Macs don't get viruses and all of that bloatware PC's do. No pop-ups, none of that...UNLESS you install bootcamp and run Windows on it, cuz Windows is susceptible to all that bullshit. That should have it covered, let me know if you need more info.Maj.Do wrote:

It's here! It got here a couple hours ago. I'll post some pics soon! It's fast and nice, I love it!
yay -- all you now need to do is find your windows cd and install it with bootcamp and hit yourself for the rest of your life why you didnt get a cheaper notebook with more power.claydawg wrote:

You wouldn't believe how fast this dual core proc. is with 2gb of ram. Bootcamp is installed and XP will be loaded on it as soon as I get off work.
Pics are up! Check them out at http://www.claydawg.com/gallery/main.ph … itemId=103
I've got pics of the new toy running both OSX and XP. I've also got some other pics of my BF2 rig on there at http://www.claydawg.com/gallery.

Laptops in general are designed not to be repaired only "replaced", but mother apple has gone WAY OVERBOARD. At least in the rest of the tech world you can usually find replacement parts for your broken laptop, but the ibooks either work or should be thrown away. You'll pay twice what the laptop is worth to replace the system board. I find that most mac repair people (including the ones at the oxyMORON "genius bar") believe that the best solution to any problem is to reload the OS. Most have bulit an "image" that takes less time for a complete reinstall, but if the reinstall does not work oh well... "it's broken".
This whole concept of reloading instead of figureing out the problem is a half assed solution. I'd be pissed if I took my car for a tune up and the mechanic told me I had a broken spark plug so I need a WHOLE NEW ENGINE.
Macs have their place... they work great for super young children and super old people... otherwise they're just a dumbed down windows. Anyone that's tried to setup a "mac server" and discovered their retarded security knows better than to count on mac network.
i like mac
i like windows
this is what i use both for
mac => msn (using adium), email, internet, music, video editing, music editing
pc=> games
but i use my macbook pro for everything since it runs windows

let me add a little more to this (again leaving linux out)
macs were pretty much the inventors of the "modern pc". (mouse, a user friendlyer GUI). While that is all good, microsoft took up those ideas with Windows 95 (i feel that 3.1 cannot be counted here). From this point on, macs only played catching-up (2+ button mouse, the failing of the mac software and the adoption of the microsoft software (office, ie, ...), the windos compatible harware). Also the much acclaimed superior GUI, does not allow me to work better (macs are stricly limited to this after all), i even have my lappy i use at university set to "classic mode", so that the fancy colors do not distract me. Sure the windows in a mac are really cool, but i just want to see my files.
Also i like the "everything works with everything else" (well in theory at least). You want to upgrade a part of your pc? no problem with windows. For macs that is nearly impossible (maybe excluding a ram or HD; try changing the gfx on a desktop mac to a geforce 7900gtx). I just dont want the propietay way of a apple.
for security, i dont see either one being superior. Sure windows has lots of viruses that target it, but then with a proper anti-virus solution everything is good. If macs held 95% market share the things would be the completely different way around (just take a look at the 2 viruses that were found for macs). Their security is only due to the fact that a virus writer will cause more havoc with a virus written for windows than for macs.
Also you can do everything on a windows based pc that you can do on a mac (sure, you might need to buy some software, but i would uninstall all that ilife stuff, even if it came for free with xp. Why should i install (and pay indirectly) for stuff that i dont want). The other way around that is a completely different story. The moment you install bootcamp, you prove this point.
And about who is userfriendlyer .... i for myself find that a windows based pc is easyer - but i'm sure the mac users think differently.
