It should be here either tomorrow or Wednesday.  I'll post some pics.  I didn't get the Macbook pro cuz I don't need it to play games.  You can see my gaming rig in my sig.  I just needed a laptop and this seemed like the way to go.  Here's the specs:

White
13.3" Widescreen
2.0GHz Intel Core Duo
512MB 667 DDR2 SDRAM- 2x256
80GB Serial ATA drive
SuperDrive (DVD±RW/CD-RW)
Airport Extreme Card&BlueTooth

Apple is proud of the Hynix RAM they ship with these and I didn't feel like paying $500 for 2gb from them.  So I've got 2gb on the way from newegg.  This is what I got:  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6820231069

What do you guys think?  Anyone else have a Macbook?  I saw a thread a while back concerning a Macbook Pro, but no Macbooks, so I was curious.

Eh, the MacBook is the new iBook.  Not exactly the workhorse powerbook of the series.  Definitely try loading Boot Camp onto it and see how well it runs Windows!  And get that new RAM installed ASAP.

I got the white one, and yeah 2gb for $160 rocks!

Yeah, I just couldn't justify the Macbook Pro.  Don't get me wrong, they're awesome, but I didn't need the graphics.  With 2gb of memory and the Intel Core Duo, I should be good to go.  I'm going to install BootCamp and run XP for Visual Studio 2005.  If I'm not using that, I'm gonna be in OS X.

Hehe, nice.  The Intel version of OS X is amazingly fast.  I have the original MacTel development kit at work.  An intel board in a G5 case that runs OS X, and I dual loaded it with Windows XP Pro. I also have 6 other production machines around me at work, and I love my dual 2.5GHz G5 here at home!

Yeah, my GF's dad is the Director of Medical Illustration for the University of Mississippi's Medical Center and he has a Dual 2.5 G5 with 2gb of RAM and Dual 23" cinema displays.  That thing is wicked sweet.  He just bought the 20" G5 iMac for home in December.  I'm gonna visit him this weekend and show him my new toy.

I love Macs, I don't love how Apple overprices their RAM.

Absolutely love the new Macbooks too ... they are so small yet you have lots of power at your fingertips (sounds like a commercial?!)
Gonna get a second one this fall.

$500 for 2gb, that's like paying a car dealership $80 for a $30 oil change

why didnt you get a dell or something
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

Because I realize there's more to computing than Windows.  Grow a grundle and use Linux/Unix based OS's.

Apples are like a car that's 20 times more efficient but can only drive on 10% of the roads.
All roads lead back to Windows. Why waste time on the mac?

It's not wasting time when you know what you're doing.  I guess I do and you don't.  It's that simple.

Wrong, all roads eventually lead to *NIX, which is why all of the computers in my industry are either Mac OS X or IRIX based...

In a fully business oriented/boring world, perhaps all the side roads lead back to Windows, but definitly not in the entertainment industry.

Very true, almost all of my production servers are running SUN Solaris or some other *NIX version.  We also have an SGI Altix 3000 setup with 224 processors and 224gb of RAM running Suse 10 with SGI's propack 4 and a Fedora based Beowolf Linux cluster with 300+ nodes.  I'm running Gentoo Linux 2006.0 on my personal server as well.  I only seen Windows as useful for gaming.

Sweet setup there.  We have an SGI Octane set up running Flame...I absolutely love the IRIX interface, and once you know all the command line commands, everything just becomes so much faster!

I live and die by the command line.  GUI's are pretty, but that's about it

Well, you could always try to intelligently state your position on Macs, rather than resorting to statements like "my first fisher price pc."  That usually helps abate the flames...

lol, yeah don't make me flame you :-P.  You can't call something loosely based on UNIX and BSD fisher-price...there's just something wrong with that.

Wrong. I've used and supported BOTH for years. In a business environment. For thousands of users. Everything an end user needs to do their job, can more easily be done and trained on Microsoft products. Why do you guys think Mac's are so much better if the average worker can't understand how to use it therefore costing countless dollars to the business owner for an unproductive employee? As far as my line of work is concerned, you can waste hundreds of hours trying to train employees on new systems and it always seems to be smarter for your business to run Windows, in a Windows environment. Samba fucks up the roaming profiles...while it "EMULATES WINDOWS". Of course it aint gonna work right. It aint Windows.I could go on...It's like a big game to see if a program will work if you run this as that, and so on. The usability and functionality of Windows and other Office products are unmatched in a business environment. I have plenty of rebellion in me, which is why I assume people like to use something other than "The Big Evil Giant Bill Gates' products" but when it's all said and done, Microsoft FTW. (You can even right-click and scroll with teh mouse alone)
