I've got the MX518 model.  I could have got the G5 but I was confused by the fact that it has less buttons on it that the MX518.  It has a DPI of 1600 and I can tell you that is miles too much for me so why anyone would want 2000 I don't know.  The MX518 has 2 "extra" buttons on it compared to the G5 and 3 over the copperhead.  It means that I can have gas mask (play a lot of SF), reload and "enter/exit" all assigned to the mouse making them much more accesible and making my left hand's job a lot easier.

I simply don't understand why logitech (or copperhead for that matter) don't put more programmable buttons on their devices seeing as they are supposed to be for gaming!!!!

Maybe too much is not a good thing. I have a G5 and it only has 1 thumb button. That's all I need. Too many other buttons would just get in the way. I don't need accidents to happen when I'm out in the battlefield. It's all preference.

Went from a MX518 to a Copperhead....  Couldnt stand it..   QUick Upgraded to the G5 and never looked back.....

We've got 100+ Keys on our keyboard to set up whatever we want..  One less button onthe mouse isnt the end of the world for the trade off.

I've heard the copperhead has a larger learning curve then the G5.

I have a G5 and I love it.  The single thumb button is counter-balanced by the "tilt" on the mouse wheel... you can push it left/right with your index/middle fingers.  I have one direction for TS/Ventrilo speak and the other direction for cockpit view.

I have the G5 coupled with Xtrac Eels teflon feet (makes it slide a lot easier, and protects the stock feet from wear down), and I also have an Icemat for a mouse pad.  As compared to my old Ratpadz GS mouse pad it doesn't float as smoothly across, but its glass.. so it wont wear down as fast as my old ratpadz (wore down horribly after a year).

If you're going to get the G5 make sure you drop 30 bux on a good mousepad and teflon tape for the mouse feet... they go hand in hand.  With a good mouse on a sh1tty pad you're only getting 2/3 of the mouses true potential.

Plus, with a big monitor like mine (Dell 2005fpw - 20.1" widescreen) when using the mouse for web/windows browsing it makes movements a lot less arduous.

And the weight system is more like "set it and forget it", not something you really mess with.  I don't really care for it that much... I prefer my mouse light so I only have a few weights in.

Cliffs: I'd go for the G5 with a good mouse pad and teflon tape for the mouse feet.

I never even thought of a better mouse pad. And that's a good point on the monitor (mines 26") I'll have to invest pretty soon!

Do you need to put anything on the feet?  After all it has "Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) gaming feet provide the ultra-smooth glide you want in a gaming-grade mouse" or so they say, teflon is worse than ptfe is it not?

i think the g5 may better the copperhead if its unmodded. what i mean by this is that you need to take a razor (no pun) blade to the rubber edgings on the right (or left for leftys) side of the mouse and slice it off so it doesnt force you to mash your pinky and ring fingers together.

I have a G5, and I must say...it has no flaws at all. Seriously, I can't think of anything to improve on this mouse..it's just that good. Maybe another button or two, but in a performance aspect....it just owns. The ONLY thing I can think of that I don't like about this mouse, is it uses a lot of CPU resources (for a mouse), but that is no big deal at all.

Previous to my G5 I had/have an MX510... it has similar feet on it, if not identical.... the only difference I can see is the surface area of feet on the G5 is a lot larger then that of the MX510.  The Teflon Tape is a lot smoother then the feet and will protect the stock feet from wear and tear (the tape will wear down - not the feet).

For 5 dollars its hard to justify not purchasing the feet.  The best I've used is Xtrac Eels... here's a link.
