This is probably an old issue, but I have not been able find anything on it.

The first computer I installed BF2 on it worked fine from the start.  Still is.

Since then I bought 2 more computers (for friends) and installed new copies of BF2 on those computers.  Both have a glitch I can not figure out.

After installation there are 2 icons on the desktop; Play BF2 Online NOW, Play BF2

Doesn't matter which one I choose it goes directly to a server of it's choosing.  This seems to the the action of "Play BF2 Online NOW".  The only way to start up correctly is to open the CD tray and close it bringing up the AUTORUN.  If I click on START BF2 it will  startup correctly.  Kind of an awkward way to start the game.

I have no interest in being thrown in to any server the game chooses.  Any ideas on how to fix?

try renaming the BF2.exe to BF21.exe and create a shortcut to the desktop

from your install folder

I will give it a try.   What exactly is this doing?

Thanks.

Right click on the offending shortcut, choose properties, and in the "Target" field, look for "+PlayNow 1" and change it to "+PlayNow 0" or delete the whole playnow phrase.

Sounds plausible.  I saw that difference between the targets for these 2 icons.  I will give it a try.

Thanks.
