My CPU fan is completely blocked with dust need help

as the title says my fan and heat sink are completely clogged . does any one know of a safe way to clean this as im a complete noob when it comes to this stuff my son was just playing star wars battlefront 2 , and the pc started beeping and froze . the fan was working . my specs are p4 2.6 ghz dont know which m/board . acer aspire t300, any one who knows how to remove and replace cpu and fan your knowledge would greatly appreciated

Turn off the computer and unplug it. Get a can of compressed air (or just blow on it) and get as much of the loose dust away as you can. Use a Q-Tip or toothpick to get rid of everything else.

I think you can dip the Q-Tip in rubbing alcohol, but I'm not entirely sure. Double check on that one before you go and do it.

Dust is pretty easy to get rid of. Just try to keep it cleaner from now on.

Why do you have so much dust? Is your tower on the floor....consider moving it to a place where it will not take in su much dust (i.e., floor is a bad place due to carpet fibers, dirt from shoes, etc.)

also if comressed air is too much trouble, a simple brush will do the trick.

As a PC professional I am against compressed air.
For the simple reason that compressed air will onlty displace the dust to another position in your case, with the risk of clogging up the ballbearings of all the fans in your system.

My way would be (after you unplug the powercord)... Unscrew the fan of your processor heatsink and put it aside carefully. Use a vacuum cleaner to suck the dust out of the heatsink and the rest of the computer case. Use a toothpick to unclogg any dust that has jammed itself between the heatsink plates and vacuum again.
Use a tiny bit of oil to lube the fan (shake and wipe to get rid off excess oil) and screw the fan back on.

This process can also be applied toe the videocard fan.

Clean you case regularly and you will have no more problems.

(don't forget to vacuum the power unit).

If you are going to use an air compressor to blow out your computer make sure you attach a dryer to the line. When you compress air condensation forms, the dryer will filer out the smallest water particles (and other small particles).

Don't let your fans spin! Rotating motors will create electrical current back into your power supply/motherboard (you don't want that!). If anything just unplug your fans or hold the blades.

Do it outside.

A good trick is to take a desk fan (or any large fan) and place it facing the inside of your computer while blowing it out. This will help disburse the dust away from your machine.

I have been working with computers for over 14 years and this method has never failed me.

C4, a couple of bundles of C4 will blow the dust right off that nasty cpu and fan. And you'll take out any pesky opponents nearby.

Sorry, but from my experience vacuums suck (in more ways then one). Unless you have some kind of super duty suck-a-golf-ball-though-a-water-hose model, getting dust out of those hard to reach places will be hard.

Also, you don't want to suck up a jumper pin now do you?

Unplug your computer. If your vacuum cleaner has an long tube that can be separated from the floor cleaning unit, place this on your fan and use it to suck as much dust off your fan as you can. Only do this if your not comfortable removing the fan and hearsink and cleaning each separately. A good vacuum can remove alot of dust off your heat sink.

If you completely disregard the PC professional's (ResDog1) advice and get the compressed air, buy 2 or 3 cans. You'll probably need them. Or better yet, find an air compressor and use that.

I recently had to do the same to my computer and I had an industrial shop fan blowing into the box to displace the freed dust particles. Using a vacuum can work, but make sure your chips are secure lest you suck one up into the vacuum.

1. After you unplug the power cord, and open the side, touch the case, or side of the power supply to ground yourself out.
2. Don't use a vacuum unless you remove the CPU and heat sink from the computer.
3. Use compressed air either from a can, or a compressor that has a filter, and blow the dust out away from your computer, like outside. Use a toothpick to get the big pieces if you have to.
4. Don't let the fan spin unless it is separated from the motherboard and power supply.

my pc isnt on the floor its just really dusty here .

when u look at the heat sink it is nearly fully covered in dust , i will try all your ideas
