I'm keeping my purchase at or below $200 and I'm just coming up short here.  I currently have a 6600GT at my office and it runs the game well, but I'm actually buying another PC for my home and I need to decide what I'm going to do.  For another PC here in my office, I bought the 6800xt card and it runs the game a heck of a lot better than my 6600gt, but I'm looking to go a little beyond the 6800xt.  Basically, here are my choices.

7600GT - 12 pipelines, 256mb ram, 580mhz core, 1500mhz memory, 128bit memory interface,...$160 - $180 depending on rebate.

6800GS - 12 pipelines, 256mb ram, 485mhz core, 1100mhz memory, 256bit memory interface,...$200.

I'm leaning towards the 7600 b/c it's newer technology than the 6xxx series...plus it's cheaper and that really is the bottom line.  If I can get away with spending $30 - $40 less, that would be best.

My only concern with the 7600 is that they made the memory interface 128bit vs 256bit...not sure why they went backwards from the 6800.

Any help would be appreciated...any experience in comparing these cards?  Please don't disregard the above cards and recommend the 7800, x1900, x1800, etc...THEY ARE OUT OF MY PRICERANGE!

I'd also be interested in what ya'll thought about the x800GTO or x800pro cards vs the above 2.  Thanks a lot!!

i run x800xt, which is a little out of your range, but if you get say an x800gto or xt800gto2 and put some extra fan cooling on it and overclock it, you could get some decent performance from it, up around the x800xt range.

im not too much into overclocking, (done a little myself), but i am sure someone on this forum could give you a good card you could get decently cheap and then overclock it to get some good performance for your money.

Get the 7600GT, then upgrade to a DX10 card when they come out.

If you REALLY want to save money you could look into a 7300GT but that would be a waste, just get the 7600GT!

yeah, the 7600gt can run most anything and is only ~$200. i have a friend running 2 in sli and he gets the same frames as i do with my single x1900xt...the 76 is the best card for your $$
