a second BIG BANG called the religious Bang
Actually it will be the total lack of "BANGing" forced on us by the fanatical religious nutbags (of all faiths) that will cause the whole fekkin population to die of old age and have no kids to replace us coz sex is so taboo for all of em (unless u r a catholic priest of course, but altar boys can't give birth).
SO what you really are trying to say is that Women are going to be sleeping with women! And men with men witch is going to be the reason for the lack infancy production witch in turn is going to cause the priests to commit suicide cause they aren’t going to have small altar boys to molest and that is going to give us a lack of religious support in witch case we are not going to be able to stop the mass increasing of homosexuality and eventually die HOW GAY!!!!!
I'll simplify it.
Church (any faith)...nutters (all of em).....no sex (coz its rude and not natural for aforementioned nutters)....no kids (see no sex bit).... all die out (see no kids bit)

Lol.... Anyway, what's wrong with women sleeping with women? Long as I'm in the middle of em.
And if u r into men on men, then whatever floats ya boat dude, just don't float it in my vicinity.

Come to think of it, u have a point, if the priests all commit suicide and we have a lack of religious support, then we (mankind) might have a chance.

cpt.fass1, I think it is most definitely a misconception to conclude that, because of media coverage, people view it to be a possible exterminator of the human race. I honestly don't think that the human race will be obliterated. In all likelihood, the worst that will happen is that population will be severely capped, and civilization will be forced into an underground of sorts. Even still, before our star explodes, the chance of us developing reasonable means of transportation are extremely high. Call it my version of faith. Hahaha

And why do we fight wars? Often times to hold up ideals. And who has the strongest, most embedded ideals out of any group on the planet? Religions. I mean, these are sects that have not only rules about you from birth to death but before *and* after that. (As if any one of them actually has a real inclining what it's like...)

Anyway, I would say religion as well -- religion being the primary catalyst for the "next big war".

IF, however, we manage to not kill each other because "my god is cooler than your god (or lack there of)" then we're going to die of over-population in combination with killing the planet.

I'm a little surprised this one hasn't come up in the thread yet, actually. There are some stark, scary things happening to our world that are going to be big issues -- ozone, lack of oil, waste disposal, farmable land shortages, deforestation, species endangerment, etc, etc. Our specieis is the primary motivator for throwing a lot of this planet's natural cycles out of whack. I imagine that, after all out war, the only other thing that's really going to devestate our species is the destruction/overuse of this planet.

The idea that a plauge would ravage our populations significantly enough to kill us all off is proposterous. With advancements in technology, specifically the technologies for communication and infection tracking, I can't see a major pandemic incident truely occuring that couldn't be internationally collaborated upon to quickly solve and put down.

Not to say that a major bug couldn't wipe out a serious portion of our poplulation, but it wouldn't kill us off for certain.

Bingo!

If anything it's religion. I mean, come on! In the name of who did terrorists attack the US? Their god. Why were 6 Mil jews murdered? They had different views on god. I could go on and on.

As for diseases, Bird Flu. Maybe.

Really, I don't think religion is such an inciting factor for politics nowadays. Often, it is the road to power and the sustaining of such a role already developed. Much like the private economic sector within the USA, it could be possible the wars result from this. Unless a truly insane individual comes to grips with some ability to contract WMDs on quite the massive scale, humanity is likely to be unravaged by war within contexts of affects among our populace in the whole. At this current point in time, it's quite hard to differentiate actual global warming between a minor climate change within dear ol' Earf. In fact, I suppose there are a few arguments that deftly counteract such a point.

And religion is different because it's not about power, right?

WTF are you trying say there? I can't quite understand it when you've got a dictionary/thesaurus stuck in your mouth. The nonsense has been highlighted in case you have trouble parsing it yourself.

Perhaps you're not up to date, but in the last 100 years our planet's average temperature has risen 1 degree. That's pretty minor -- well, excepting for the fact that over the last 1000 years (prior to this century) the rise was about the same. I'd say we're having a pretty drastic effect.

As an example of how drastic a change one degree is, just look at the scale of which hurricanes we've been seeing. You can not write off the weather changes as "incidental" -- Katrina, etc, are storms the likes of which that area of the world has never seen. At least not for thousands of years. Additionally, did you know that this last hurricane season, the weather service ran out of their predefined names for a given season due to the never before seen number of weather events?

Please don't be so trite when writing off such a massive subject, it's ignorant.

On the large scale, no, it isn't. Most religious wars have been ones in defense of a perceived encroachment. In modern times, such a conflict isn't seeming too realistic.

lol. Hey, you wanna' make assumptions, suit yourself -- fact is, in every aspect, it makes sense.

lol. I'm not even discussing severity of impact, but just that global warming isn't a discernible issue at this point in time, given that temperature increases have, during some years, made no progress even during peak increases in automotive/gasoline use.
