WTF are you talking about? The Civil War or the Revolutionary war? I am by no means a(n) historian, but as far as I know all 13 colonies fought in the Revolutionary War against the British, although there were some colonists that fought on the side of the Brits. It was not a fight between the north and the south.Vilham wrote:

Oh so I have to have a degree in military studies to form an opinion now do I? It's a subject I'm interested in and I watch a lot of well made documentaries along with the daily news reels and please don't insult my intelligence by telling me about the bias and sensationalism that the media puts into its stories, I'm intelligent enoughto cut the wheat from the chaff. I'm basing my opinions from not one, but many interviews I've seen with many US soldiers, British soldiers and Iraqi citizens (and before you say it, too many to be isolated incidents) and I'm sorry if it upsets or offends you but there are SOME (please note that word and don't accuse me of blanketing..) US soldiers at the bottom levels that have cleary been recruited when they don't have the aptitude. Sure they wanna fire guns at people but they don't have a clue about the Iraqi's perception of them (again I feel I have to reiterate SOME!).GunSlinger OIF II wrote:

Sorry i meant east and west which is pretty much what it was. You will actually find that alot of colonists died on the british side, the british army didnt lose many troops and that is why not much of the revolution is taught in our history classes.atlvolunteer wrote:

OK. Just so we're clear. I won't argue that we didn't get help from other European countries, mainly France.Vilham wrote:

This is how the other euros helped the rebel states defeat the british.
"The American Revolutionary War (1775–1783), also known as the American War of Independence,[1] was a war between Great Britain and revolutionaries within thirteen British colonies, who declared their independence as the United States of America in 1776. The war was the culmination of the American Revolution, a colonial struggle against political and economic policies of the British Empire. The war eventually widened far beyond British North America; many Native Americans also fought on both sides of the conflict.
Throughout the war, the British were able to use their naval superiority to capture and occupy coastal cities, but control of the countryside (where most of the population lived) largely eluded them. After an American victory at Saratoga in 1777, France, Spain, and the Netherlands entered the war against Great Britain. French involvement proved decisive, with a naval victory in the Chesapeake leading to the surrender of a British army at Yorktown in 1781. The Treaty of Paris in 1783 recognized the independence of the United States."
Civil war was north v South. The war of INDEPENDANCE was against the Britsatlvolunteer wrote:

are you an idiot or what? war between north and south was civil war, study BEFORE you start criticizing the people who saved you in WWII... and the kerry supporters included the 13 colonies who fought AGAINST jolly old england... i have nothing against brits, just ones who think they're superior to everyone else... and it's not our fault your country couldnt keep control of it's colonies around the world, we can keep control of all 50 of them (plus protectorates, and the like. ie. puerto rico, etc) Like I said, brush up on you American history before you go ranting on and on about our patriotic nation. and i thought you said that was your last post... my point about governing is that your country is too large to be governed effectively because the east side is different hugely to the west side.

I just find it funny that you mention this but are named after a character who has almost never respected anyone's constitutional rights (and is loved for it). Situational irony or something I guess, I completely agree with you and everything but seeing that letter and then with the signature... well it just killed me.Jack Bauer wrote:
I like living in America. I haven't ever lived in a different country though, so maybe I would be happier somewhere else. The only thing that bothers me right now is that I don't know where we're headed as a society. It seems like corporations control everything because money controls everything. Democracy and respecting peoples constitutional RIGHTS doesn't seem to be on any of the politicians agenda anymore.
So, all in all, not impressed with the current state of politics, but I am generally content for the moment.

You're correct with everything you posted after from the textbook/article but I still do not know what you mean by east/west. The colonial population was quite mixed, but this didn't differ across geographical lines. There were Tories who wanted to remain loyal to Britain throughout the colonies (although maybe you are suggesting there were a few more rich ass plantation owners in the far south or something whereas merchants from the north opposed British taxes enough to cast their lot in with the rebels oftentimes) and there were many. Out west was largely undeveloped and unoccupied Indian territory and virtually no colonists, but there were a few minor battles out there (like Vincennes i believe). The war started in the north and many of the more famous battles took place there, perhaps that is what you mean.Vilham wrote:

I love it when people tell other people to study and then post a load of old tripe themselves,littlecheez9 wrote:

Point 3: (You have been watching too many Michael Moore films.) This is much too broad a generalization to be true.

You can't deny that a big percentage of Americans are mentally ill and are gun wielding nutjobs.
Its also true alot of Americans are ashamed to be American and live in America for example take a look at the "Dixie Chicks" that country band or what ever they said they are ashamed to be from Texas. Then they got death threats lol proof right there cant blame em though.
So remember kids America in a nutshell.
Slaughter,Corruption,Obesity,Firearms = pack it into a big blob of goodness and you got an American.
Not you again...Berserk_Vampire wrote:
