Windows has marked the drive "dirty".    Chances are you harddrive has failed.

Go into  Event Viewer and check for Disk and NTFS errors in the system log, good chance youll have em.

What OS are you running?  This is your E: drive, so with XP there should (by default) be no sharing on the drive, hence no reason windows check disk (or scan disk) should not run.  If you're using ME or win 2k there's a defult hidden share for each drive (or partition).  You can disable this easily by right clicking the drive letter and going to properties.
If you still can not check the drive I recommend you download a good free disk scanner.  It's been a few years since I've needed to use anything besides the built in microshaft scanner they stole from norton, but I'd start on download.com and look for a free aftermarket scan disk type program.  You might also want to download and run ad-aware and spybot to be extra sure you're not infected with spyware.

slo5oh I'm running on windows xp. I wanted to format my drive but I'm getting a message saying that a utility is scheduled to run i know exactly what it means the disk check. I have a bad file on my computer somewhere and i would like to format E drive but it wont let me how can i get around this?

And blade i cant make that screen any bigger since i got it off my mobile. All i can say is if you have ever run a disk check then the screen is basically a bit like that.

Anymore help on this please i want to format my E drive but it wont let me anyone be able to help me on this?

please dude read the other posts i have put i have let it run a hell of a lot of times but still nothing.
