Hi, i am very interested when it comes to computers n all that and basically a few questions:

-What future specifications do you reckon will be possible in a few years?
-What is the difference between DX9 and 10 gaming or whatever (? lol)
-Also, i have a ATI x600 256mb hypermemory, i can play fine with it but how good is this card compared nowadays?

Thanks.

if im making stupid questions well sorry

In a few years?

- Probably quad-core (or cell processors) - depending on how well the PS3 does, more ram, faster graphics cards (probably multiple cores)
- DX10 adds geometry shaders
- it is about mid-range right now, maybe mid-low.  If you upgraded to a $300+ card you would probably see a 40%+ increase.

edit:  thanks for the constructive cricism:

btw, the new ATI card (RD600) uses GDDR4 memory... very fast, and an 800mhz core

Hey, I was just looking at one of my old Personal Computer World magazines, and it was dated january 2000. And on the front cover, it had.... get ready for it..... the first 1Ghz computer, costing around £5,000. That was only six years ago, so imagine another 5 years dude. AMAZING!!!!!!!

Hard to say what the future will bring us... I'm still waiting on the hoverboards.

Computing-wise... yeah, multi-core will be the norm.  Not sure about the graphics part though... although maybe that'll be a few years away when multi-threading becomes as normal as normal today.  RAM, boatloads... we'll break the 4GB barrier and I'm estimating that 4GB will become "mid-range" at around 2008 to 2010.

Parallel interfaces will be phased out.  IDE will be dead.  SATA optical drives will be normal.  And we might (keyword: might) see a single drive reaching 1TB.

HDMI or HDCP might become norm in a couple of years... who knows... widescreen panels will also become norm (at least, I hope it does).

And if we're really really lucky (as in, hell froze over), we might actually see Duke Nukem Forever!

we can see a single drive reaching 1TB in at least 2 years

seagate just made a 750gigger didn't they?  I would say by mid 2007 there will be a 1TB drive.

I think over the course of three years, there will be a new graphics card slot.

GMail from google is actually using Petabytes because they give 2 and 1/2 gigabytes of storage space to each person, that's like installing over 75% of BF2 into your E-Mail.  No one has reached the Xabyte (Pronunciation: X -a -bite) yet though, which is over 1,000 Petabyes.
