is the card new or off ebay??
You have to learn the rules of the game and then you have to play better than anyone else.

Is it like this for anyother games?

Download RivaTuner and monitor your GPU temperature under 3D application loads. Shouldn't be above 70 degrees.

Check to make sure your graphics card fan is running also.

How does that even handle BF2? My FX5900 broke a sweat on mostly Lows.

VGA card is defitnantly overheating due to overclock or under too much stress...

check ur gpu temps, should be no higher than 75 celcius.

get an after market cooler (zalman vf700alcu or sumthing like that)

I also have a 6600GT PCi-e which runs on medium settings no probs, I also have an AMD Athalon 3400+ with 1.5gig.

Check your GPU core temp, to do this right click anywhere on your desktop, click properties, then settings, then advanced, then select the tab named after your card, then to the left a menu should appear, click temperature settings, and your GPU core temp will be displayed. If it's in the mid 60's - 70's then it's running too hot and you could probably do with another fan.

HTH.

To be honest i can play single player and 16 player maps with most options on medium with this card with only a gig of ram, but always have everything on low when playing normally

onboard video cards suck... they take their load from the cpu

(i run on medium)
*edit* most of the times i had your problem (with the "old" ATI one) was when i got to the desktophttps://img161.imageshack.us/img161/2435/screen0059eq.th.jpghttps://img161.imageshack.us/img161/2757/screen0060kk.th.png

I built a new rig just for BF2, I have an amd 3500 cpu, started off with 1 gig of ram and one evga 6600gt 128 mb video card. I seem to remember having those problems as well. I had to turn down my settings, then everything ran fine. I have since added another gig of ram and another 6600 gt video card in sli, i run everything on high now.

Just curious though, what are your video settings for the game?

since uve got a more powerfull cpu, and 2 6600gt's... running on high is normal... but a a standard 6600gt should run medium just fine. try 87.25 drivers, they pwn a lot

yeah, i can't remember right, as this was months ago, that i had to turn textures down to low when i had one video card, just so i could avoid too much lag
