I actually just picked up the new MaxPC and saw that article you guys are talking about and I have to say that I thought of those EXACT points that he braught up as I was reading it. How can they pit a STOCK X1900 XTX against the $100-$150 MORE expensive and SEVERELY overclocked XFX 7900 GTX when they were ran on DIFFERENT motherboards?! That's just plain retarded. I thought their statement was hilarious too: "If you really don't care about games, ATI is the better solution." LMAO... WTF would you buy a $500 card for if you "dont really care about games"?! I really liked their $1000 gaming system benchmarks too. They definitely had me confused when they stated they their 7600 GT played FEAR with ALL graphics settings maxed out (guessing that means Soft Shadows too, eh?) and 4x AA at 1280 x 1024 with 50 FPS...??? I think they forgot to take that XFX 7900 GTX out when they took those benches.
Before I read all this crap, I really liked MaxPC and their reviews.. and still do on some stuff, but I totally didn't expect such ignorant crap from them like this and will be sure to NEVER take their benches seriously.

I should have read the article better. thank you guys for the links discussing the fact. I got the subscription (along with a few others) for free for 2 years from a site so I figured I would give it a read. Some of the articles/reviews aren't too bad, but I will remember to read closer and between the lines next time.

Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead, but I just got the card yesterday and I must say... I am in NO WAY dissapointed with this card right now. Absolutely no problems installing and it is running all my games significantly better than my X850 XT PE! It's so NICE to run bf2 maxed out with 6x AA and at 60+ FPS!! I never could have imagined such a sight. Same thing with FEAR, Far Cry, Quake 4, Half-Life 2 games (even though it already ran extremely well on my X850), and anything else I throw at it. I scored around 11000 marks on 3dMark 05 with my Athlon 64 4000+ and stock GPU clocks. My X850 could only do close to 7000 with it OCed. The AVIVO has been pretty nice so far too. But I havn't really been able to take advantage of it yet cuz all I have to hook it up to right now is my 27" flat-sreen CRT TV. I can tell that the text is just a tad clearer on my CRT, that's about it. I'll have my 1080p plasma here soon though and see what wonders it works on that screen .
So I'm just lettin whoever searches for this card on the forum that I am extremely happy with this card and in my expirience had 0 problems with installation, drivers, or any other hardware/software issues. The only thing I can nit-pick about is the cooling fan. I cant hear it over my other case fans or CPU fans, but I dont think it does as good as a job as any aftermarket cooling solution would. I'm going to take the Zalman cooler off my X850 and installing it on the X1900 soon. If anyone wants, I'll reply and let ya know how that works out. Thanks again for all the advice guys!!
