In flightsims that I've played, you can program the hat switches on your joystick to basically move your pilot's head.  So if you push the switch left, you look left, and as soon as you release, you're looking straight again.

In this game, I haven't got it figured out.  I get into dogfights, and I don't know how to look around to see where the enemy aircraft is located.  Frustrating!

Download either:

JoyToKey: Basic, easy, and free
Pinnacle game profiler: advanced macros & controls, slightly harder, 30 day (BS-free) trial

Although mouselook in dogfights is useless as once you use mouselook you lose control over your jet.

Well, that's what I was getting at.  You can't look around and still fly.  There's simply no way to do it?  That's nuts...

I have my hatswitch set to Up=look behind, Down=chase cam, left=cockpit (again for nose cam), and right=map.

right-click turns mouselook on, but because I'm a helo-whore, my right hand never leaves the throttle :\

Like i said, ctrl is the default key to look around, set "mouse look" to one of your buttons on your stick, and that will work.

All you really need is a key set to chase front. Your field of view is wide enough that you should be able to see something go past you and be able to turn in time to follow it. Any other time I use chase view to dodge missiles.

BF2 is not a FLight Sim.  I have 4 different ccam views linked to my Hat control...  Works out great.

Seeing you're (probably) new to dogfighting in BF2:

-Fly high. 500 feet = high, not 200. then just look down for enemy jets. STAY HIGH
-Check your six. constantly.
-Use afterburners when needed
-ALWAYS fly in bomb mode. only when you are going to fire a missle, switch to missle mode. switch back to bombs after firing.
-Look up flight maneauvres. Immelmans, split-S, the "Scissors", the yoyo, whatever, just know what to do. simply turning in circles won't work.
-landing is easy!
-Don't try to cut corners when chasing your opponent. Follow their trails and nothing else.

yeah be nice if i could do that in a chopper... it gets annoyin when u wanna be checkin 270* and u can only do that by having zero controls.

I believe what they are asking is, "Can you "FREE" look and still control the Plane/Helo?" I believe the answer is NO!

real pilots fly at 1 foot above the water to show theyre skilled. they also never use bomb mode and use their missiles to kill tanks. special maneuvers are also for noob pilots.
