not even going to think about buying a gaming PC again until this bubble has burst, and then hopefully can pick up parts again at rock bottom prices.

very optimistic outlook, though. i am not hopeful about the direction that consumer tech is going in general. we're heading for a perma-subscription, you-will-own-nothing future. plus, games are horribly optimized thesedays because all the companies are lazy as fuck and relying on AI rescaling. what a total mess.

lack of optimization has been creeping on us even before ai upscaling was even a rumor. you could find talk of it in mags, expert interviews. with relying on overbuilt consumer pcs to pick up the slack because it's cheaper to do so, an increasing lack of devs who even remember how to optimize, and the slump of lost technologies, were probably inevitable.

a game coming out with sensible technical features floors everyone. 'wow these save files are sub-1MB! and automatically backed up!' and then there's unity devslop, forever in early access, demanding as much ram as you have, and more, the longer you run it without restarting.

not just in games, anyway. watched a vid by an old dev responsible for the tight code of windows task manager bemoaning the state of windows apps.

i've thought for awhile that a possible result of the loss of bleeding edge availability could mark a return to engine optimizations and seemingly impossible games made to run amazingly on absolute potatoes. the stuff people got to run on MS-DOS back in the day was miraculous. new techniques, new names, new stuff left and right. this is probably best case. worst case, i'm not going to rent an e-station for 10 hours a month from the microsoft store or whatever. premium membership!

can it run crysis

There aren't any good games anymore. The mechanics are blah. Story driven games are blah too.

Teenager shit. Even mature games are who gives a shit. Wow, cowboys.

I saw a guy dressed as a cowboy in Pennsylvania. He was just standing there on the corner posing as a cowboy.

I thought "oh wow. We have things like that back home too."

if you wanted good mechanics, you'd have actually liked project zomboid. one of the, if not the, highest fidelity post apocalypse zombie games out there. what does dead motorcycle have? you bike somewhere and there's a bandit or a bunch of zombies. where do you even get your fuel at?

e: i already have rdr2. forever on the backburner. am i going to get gta6? i dunno. probably not if i'm still on this pc. depends on how rockstar treats its people. i'm not too well versed in this whole saga, and there's probably disproportionately more coverage of this company, but sending thugs to a redditor's house is a little on the nose pertaining to a franchise of felonies, isn't it.

union busting, putting staff on watchlists. there are other games. barring that, read a book.

GTA 6 looks like they put a lot of effort and thought into it. I have no reason to wish them ill. I also don't think I will get it. The whole being a bandit thing just doesn't interest me.
