it's an unreasonable restriction. family emergency? better wait until after math.

sounds good on paper. "non-distracted students pay attention in class!" until we remember kids weren't paying attention in class even before the advent of smartphones and handhelds. teachers shouldn't have to be social police for the politicians.

let teachers teach. teach people how to learn, how to study, and why before showering them with a bunch of crap that takes over their day until like 10pm.

I pay for both. It is annoying moving it around. I mostly keep the iPhone in its packaging case and check it periodically.

I am not important enough to need to be on call 24/7. And the extra phone bill isn't bad. I get a yearly stipend from the union directly and also free trips, expenses, compensation, and other stuff. So I just pick the lowest tier plan available.

It is a blessing. I should have separated everything harder and sooner.

I actually feel really good about it. I no longer ever have to worry about accidentally uploading something to the school computer. I think next will be removing my school profile from my home PC. Just get the school off of every device and minimize how much I am tied to the district at all beyond contract hours.

I am not enforcing the cellphone ban. According to my students a lot of teachers aren't. Some teachers are and so far 14 students were suspended for it. But frankly I think the ban gave some control freaks Nazi teachers the ability to be assholes to the students.

Of course they asked me to submit a cell policy and I said "I am using classroom based interventions to ensure compliance..."

i'm surprised cell phones didn't cause more discontent among boomers. working boomers went from call-free vacations and road trips to always being on call. zero conceivable boundaries between your personal life and your work. that wasn't a smooth transition for families.

simpsons sold everyone a pack of lies. cell phones were a good thing. heart feels funny? make a call and dr hibbert will make you feel all better again. instead, we ended up with bosses calling people at 2 am about a tripped alarm somewhere to go check. "but you'll still be in early, right?" there should have been a revolt and time of terrors before the y2k bug.
