Currently working summer school for the last time.
We are on rotating schedules except the "teacher in charge” of each section. I think she feels threatened by me getting there much earlier than her on the days I am scheduled. She snapped at me today when I casually mentioned the school is letting the kids in earlier than they should. I was just casually observing it and she panicked and thought I was criticizing her for not being there earlier.
Then to make it worse the summer school admin text me directly 20 minutes later about changing the part of the program I am scheduled for. I agreed to it and that it was a good idea. Then they told her after the fact. Now she straight up isn't talking to me.

why would she have to get in earlier? she's not the only adult in the building, presumably. i think principals fuck off for large swaths of the day. i remember them being gone a lot, letting the vp take up the slack.

I am getting more into the mind of making this my last year teaching. I have my supervisor and principal certificates. I don't want to commit to waiting in my district anymore for an admin role. I am ready to leave. I have to finish this year because next summer I am getting to go to Washington D.C. on professional trip.
What broke the camel's back was the fact that the statewide NJ Democratic convention is taking place next month. I was invited. I probably can't go since it overlaps with teaching days. I have to ask for the time off and I doubt I can get it.

you'd figure giving substitutes a chance to substitute would be pretty important in keeping that turnstile rotating.
i get a lot of "you should be a teacher." i can't wrap my head around some of it. a lot of people seen to simultaneously think that it's both a worthless and nonexpendable profession at the same time. like, you want me to get a job you have no respect for and seemingly no understanding of, for the small pay you think i'd deserve? also, weren't you on about kids these days and school shootings risks? gee, thanks for the recommendation into a job you're actively voting to defund. and yeah, i really want to teach a bunch of 12-year-olds or whatever how to angle their bulletproof backpacks for the best impact absorption. doesn't sound depressing at all.
(though, the blockade drills will come in handy during the 2030s riots against ai trump and the trillion dollar secret police ice will become be cemented as. but at this point, shouldn't the kids be the ones teaching new teachers active shooter stuff? they grew up with all this).

We have a single school resource officer. Short guy who mostly handles traffic and parking tickets.
We have security guards. A few of them are armed. A lot of them have poor boundaries with the teenagers. I feel like one a year gets fired for trying to get a teenagers number or Instagram.

A former colleague married her teacher at 16 straight out of school.
At my school multiple teachers were involved with pupils, it was an open secret, a number got fired but never prosecuted, one of them writes crosswords for The Times now.
