looked really boring to me. watched a bit on a plane but turned it off.
what's the point making a song and dance about using IMAX when the film is a bunch of static dialogue scenes in a fucking room?
and i'm probably in the top percentile of people who enjoy watching movies that consist of nothing more than people sitting around talking in fucking rooms.
oppenheimer comes recommended by a lot of people in my circles. i haven't seen oppenheimer. a lot of hollywood is infected with blah. the trailers are all a three-minute yawn with interchangeable dialog (odyssey!). how is that supposed to get me excited to see something? when it's over, i don't remember much specifically from the whole multimedia ordeal. not to sound like my art prof, but they just don't pop.
i've already did my post this month about this stuff but it still rankles.
has anyone ever put a youtube video on like quarter speed? use software to fill in the gaps and that's the soundscape of movies these days, and the same mood i get from dialog, plot, visuals. what happened to movies you can remember years later? now you leave the hollywood experience already forgetting it like a dream. what the fuck is this style? who do we blame?
it feels like talent is either massively throttled, micromanaged, or all off doing gofundme indies or something. this is only going to get worse with studios migrating to AI. my feed had a thing about an AI category in film awards. barf. imagine living next to a data center emitting a skull-rattling whine 24/7 just so disney doesn't have to hire voice talent for darth vader. every bit as much torture as the character's cyborg suit.
how are we making movies out of meme games now. minecraft, fnaf, backrooms wtf? isn't there an angry birds, too? are we going to get a cookie clicker? who do you even cast? you know a game has passed its expiry date when a studio considers bringing it to the big screen.
Backrooms was a 4chan post made into creepypastas or whatever then and then kanes videos got a big following then a bunch of other YouTube videos and games popped up.
His YouTube stuff is good.
I watched Minecraft on streaming and honestly was okay with it til the last 20/30 minutes turned into a blah battle. Similar with Mario.
that was a plane watch for me. agreed, not very good. rehash of 'uncut gems' but with a less charismatic character and worse main performance. not really sure what it was even going for ... weirdly glossed over lots of the interesting topics/themes of the movie and went for a weird kind of 'brooklyn forrest grump' picaresque. the shoehorning in of japan and world-historical events was just weird and cringe.
don't think that y'israel yeshivah tel-aviv lady is a very good actress either.
