republicans turning on advisors, cabinet members, officials their president beefs with is very old news. desperately making fauci into a scapegoat for trump (and america's, let's be honest) abysmal pandemic performance. trump, et al, nurse an obsession with fauci, who according to them is apparently one of the many in a long list of people who were sabotaging trump's reelection (which he won, according to him, make sense of that?). fauci as a long time advisor to presidents from both parties seems to have slipped their mind.

since maga was baying for fauci's blood, fauci was given preemptive pardon by biden, and that made them even more frothing mad. only trump gets to pardon people (or make appointments, and so on)!

this wiki snippet (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthony_F … 9_pandemic):

In a March 8, 2020, interview, Fauci stated that "right now in the United States, people [who are not infected] should not be walking around with masks", but "if you want to do it, that's fine".[50][51] In the same interview, Fauci said that buying masks "could lead to a shortage of masks for the people who really need" them: "When you think masks, you should think of healthcare providers needing them".[50][52] When Fauci made this comment, America's top surgical mask maker was struggling to produce enough masks to meet the increased demand.[52] On April 3, the CDC reversed course, quoting recent studies that showed asymptomatic transmission of the virus, thus advocating for the public to wear non-surgical masks to reduce community transmission while Fauci advocated for wearing facial coverings in public.[51] Fauci's shifting advice on wearing face masks drew criticism, which Fauci responded to by arguing that changes in policy were necessary as scientists learned more about COVID-19.[15]

In mid-April, when asked about social distancing and stay-at-home measures, Fauci said that if the administration had "started mitigation earlier" more lives could have been saved, and "no one is going to deny that." He added that the decision-making for implementing mitigation measures was "complicated", and that "there was a lot of pushback about shutting things down back then."[53]

Fauci's comments were met with a hostile response from former Republican congressional candidate DeAnna Lorraine. Trump retweeted Lorraine's response, which included the call to "#FireFauci".[54] "Fire Fauci" has also been chanted by anti-lockdown protesters in various locations, including Florida and Texas.[55] As a result, the White House denied that Trump was firing Fauci, and blamed the media for overreacting.[56][57]
"first they said we shouldn't wear them, then they said they should wear them."

a lot of anti-maskers started off wanting masks because they were told NOT to wear them, then they didn't want masks because they were told TO wear them. oppositional defiance energy. fauci, a name that never crossed many maga brains before, quickly became persona non grata and an obsession trigger for many rants about stuff that should be laid at the feet of republicans and government as a whole. it's never going to be a reasonable conversation. anything fauci says will be used against him. his very name sparks ire.

while we're wasting time with badgering fauci, trump's pardoning pedos and bombing schoolchildren.

Things are going badly for Trump so he needs a distraction, he is in any case obsessed with things which may or may not have happened in the past, Hunter Biden's laptop, crooked Hilary's illegal email server, communism etc.

Its not clear what MAGA are enraged about, possibly they are angry that Fauci didn't die working 25hr days in the lab, and had something of a normal life, so they could make exactly zero effort and no changes to their lives during covid - which is what they went ahead and did.

It seems they are livid angry that his advice changed during the course of the pandemic, going from don't wear a mask to wear a mask. How can someone who changes his views in real time be trusted?

There are lingering questions about what he knew about what was happening in Wuhan and how involved he was.

I think thats about it.

Republicans are angry and need to prove everything is someone else's fault

If you prove someone who is smart wasn't entirely right about everything all the time that makes you the smart one - Sun Tzu said this, he was a great friend of mine actually, he used to tell me I was really smart, super smart, the smartest person ever.
